Toledo Central Catholic at Toledo St. John's. Game of the Year?
-
hookshotFriday, Jan. 15 on Airport Highway.
---It may be too early to proclaim a "Game of the Year" in the Toledo City League, but this could be it: St. John's is 8-1 and 3-0 in the TCL, while the Irish are 7-0 and 3-0. Titans are probably the slight favorite at home, but it would be a mistake to underestimate Jim Welling's ability to prepare the Irish for the challenge. Thoughts and analysis?
P.S. Can a moderator fix the typo in the heading? -
TolCentralCathThis is definitely going to be one of the top games of the year, if not the top game in the City League. The CCHS/ SFS game was one of the top games but now this match up is going to be even bigger. SJJ has the home court advantage but the Irish are coming off a great victory over St. Francis. Even if SJJ has the size advantage, the Irish have proved that doesn't mean much in games.
It will no doubt be one hell of a game.
GO IRISH! -
Swamp FoxI saw Bowling Green take St. Johns into double-overtime before losing a tremendously competitive 73-67 decision a little while ago. Bowling Green is starting to gel and is looking much better than earlier in the season but with all due respect to the Bobcats, I would have to rate Central ahead of them...perhaps by more than a small margin. St. Johns may well win this game on their home court, but I really like Coach Welling and while Coach Heintchel (spelling?) is a Toledo coaching legend of gigantic proportions, I like Central to pull this one off.

thechosenoneCentral will win this one. SJJ cannot live up to the hype. They aren't the team that they were last year.
-
vball10setwhy in the hell are they playing this at SJJ? wasn't UT available?? there's going to be a LOT of unhappy fans being turned away Friday--what a shame!!!!
-
ross ford81Nobody will be "turned away Friday". It will be known by Wednesday that the game is totally sold out. Central also sold out last Friday night and some unhappy people got turned away.
-
vball10set^^^you start out by saying "nobody will be turned away" ,and then you say "some unhappy people got turned away"--which one is it,Einstein??
anyway,a game of this magnitude should be held in a gym with a capacity of 2000+...IMO -
hookshotOK VBall10Set, explain your post? It look like Ross just said last Friday night was sold out at Central and this Friday St. John's will be sold out, but this time we will know well in advance. Why even bother making a post responding in tht way -- how about commenting on the game and giving us some of your knowledge and insight, if you have any?

So its ok for SJJ to play at Central every other year, but when its played at SJJ, you say it should be played at Savage Arena??? Think McFly!vball10set wrote: why in the hell are they playing this at SJJ? wasn't UT available?? there's going to be a LOT of unhappy fans being turned away Friday--what a shame!!!! -
thechosenoneWell, SJJ needs more seating. Their gym overall sucks.
-
TolCentralCathWhat is the capacity at SJJ?
-
TolCentralCathThis game needs to be moved to UT.
The game is already sold out. I heard students from SJJ were coming over to CCHS to purchase tickets because SJJ sold all of their tickets the day they came out. Tickets at CCHS are all gone. SJJ's gym is way too small, come on now, we all want to see this game. Move it to UT. -

Why so St. John's pays for it, and then next year SJJ has to play at Central???TolCentralCath wrote: This game needs to be moved to UT.

TolCentralCath
Exactly. CCHS actually has a gym that's big enough for a big game like this. SJJ does not even come close. Tickets sold out in less than one day at both CCHS and SJJ.Ollie Williams wrote:

Hopefully for all of us people who got turned away (which is A LOT of people), CCHS will be streaming this game live on their website like they did for the CCHS/ SFS game. -
ross ford81What are you talking about? This game is much bigger than the Central-SFS game and that was sold out at Central last week. Central does not have a big enough place to host this game -- what high school in NW Ohio does? Perhaps both schools can do a better job of willingness to move a game of this magnitude, but you can't put the blame soley on SJJ.
-
ccirish3245what can sjj's gym seat? it can't be more than 1,500. And then my question is why were sjj people at central buying tickets? SJJ wasn't suppose to start selling tickets until today. GO IRISH KICK SOME TITAN ASS!
-
ccirish3245
haha I take it you have never been in SJJ's gym? the seating capacity there is at least 500 to 800, if not more, less than Central.ross ford81 wrote: What are you talking about? ross ford81I've been in St. John's gym about 100 times. My point is, NEITHER SJJ or Central has a facility big enough to handle this crowd. I expect 5,000 or more tickets could have been sold for this one. So what is the "ha, ha" about? What is there disagree with?
-
ccirish3245
I totally agree. Therefore the venue of the game should be changed to UT. If it was at Central it would be a whole different story because Central can hold almost 2 times as many people as SJJ and that is what the "haha" is referencing because i think the sullivan center is more than capable to hold a game of this magnitude. oh and by the way there may be more on the line in this game but it is deffinently NOT gonna be as intense the Central vs. SFS game was. I can almost guarantee that.ross ford81 wrote: I've been in St. John's gym about 100 times. My point is, NEITHER SJJ or Central has a facility big enough to handle this crowd. slingshot4everVery surprised game isn't at Savage. That said, CCHS is not winning under the Dome!
-
ccirish3245
Not if Wellings has anything to say about it!slingshot4ever wrote: Very surprised game isn't at Savage. That said, CCHS is not winning under the Dome! -
TolCentralCathWelling will have his men prepared for this game as the Irish are looking for some revenge from last years City Championship game.
The Irish will be revealing new sweet uniforms for this game. -

What do the new uniforms look like?TolCentralCath wrote: Welling will have his men prepared for this game as the Irish are looking for some revenge from last years City Championship game.
