Hiland (11-0) vs Garaway (8-1) 1/23

jlghoopsthere were plenty of Pirates in the PRCC on Saturday night taking in the Hiland/Ridgewood game.
-
PariahYep and they didn't see the Hawks playing very well!
Hmm, I wonder why they couldn't have been there 24 hours earlier. -
ricolathey were all snowed in and just got their driveways cleared in time to make it to the game!
The Hawks were kind enough not to tip their hand apparently. I guess they wanted to get them overconfident! -
majorsparkWeather permitting this game is on for tomorrow. If there is not a clear blue sky and sunshine or the temperature dips below 32. I would call to be sure the game is still on before you make the trip. All kidding aside it should be a packed house.
I only saw Garaway once this year. That was earlier in the season. One of their challenges will be Hiland's depth. They played Sunday, Tuesday, and Today. This game will be their 4th this week. With pole position on the line in the IVC should be a good game. -
Hesstontonight should be fun, good article in the daily record concerning last nights Malvern game. Malvern has a nice team, Tucci missed alot of shots I've seen him make in the past, maybe it was the defense? Wackerly is a very good ballplayer, my kid has been paired with him in golf matches the last few years, he is a scratch golfer, quiet, polite on the links, great young man.
Malvern and Strasburg will be extremly tuff come sectionals.

september63Hiland wins this game by 12-16.

ricolawackerly is indeed a nice player. fast and smooth; has that little runner in the lane down pat. wasn't hitting his 3's last night or would have gone for 30 or so. thought he got away with pushing off a time or two, but hiland probably did as well. Luke had a nice game; didn't force things, some nice assists... as coach said --fast as all get out and with his jumping ability can really get to the rim and pressure defenses. If Hiland can play a strong 32 minutes tonite, especially if we can hit our 3's, i like our chances tonite. But will be a close game i think. Would be surprised if its 12-16--but would gladly take that!

tfloangelricola - why do you think Boyd is so streaky after half-time??? I tend to notice it more on the girls' side who likes to get it going early and who seems to come out after half-time, and it seems to me #33 is most likely to start dropping them after intermission. Do you agree??
-
PariahWackerly was 7/7 on 2 point shots at one point last night. Didn't hit any threes though.
Malvern coaching staff did a great job in the first half. They took the points the press gave them but pulled it out, shortened the game, and rested when they had to. No junk defenses, just very tough man to man. I was impressed.
You know when a bad call has been made for sure? When a Malvern player and a Hiland player are going for a ball on the baseline, the ball goes out of bounds and is called Hiland's ball, and HILAND's crowd lets out a loud "ooh" and "what?" because everyone except the refs saw it go off the Hawk. You don't see that often!
7 straight points to start the second half pretty much settled the issue. Hawks got control and never let go.
Dylan's dunk on the missed shot was his best yet! Didn't see that one coming, but he played above the rim all night.
Hornet kids have nothing to feel bad about. Their effort was great and they executed really well. Very few TO's.
As for tonight's game, it's kinda gray out there. Hope the Pirates will be allowed to travel. -

There was one game where he was scoreless at half and finished with something like 18, so yeah, I think you are onto something!tfloangel wrote: ricola - why do you think Boyd is so streaky after half-time??? haven't figured that one out either. seems to have to do with the overall flow of the game and ball movement. maybe that stuff improves after the halftime coach's talk? whatever, i thought the second half they all got in a groove and moved the ball around to the open guy, and hence put up a lot of points in a short period of time. #33 happened to be in the right place at the right time a few times. when they play like that they are very tough to beat.
agree--Dylan's put back jam was quite impressive! seemed to get him roling offensively a bit; poor guy, couldn't seem to get the rims to cooperate the first half, tho still dominated with defense and rebounds. what was it--15 boards?
hopefully a good sign for tonite; he rarely struggles offensively two games in a row! -

HesstonThis was an outstanding game, maybe the most entertaining in prjcc history. Shame someome had to lose, great athletes on both sides.
Hiland won by 5 but Garaway was ahead by 1 with under a minute to play mad scrambles for loose balls, foul shots down the stretch, Garaway had posetion with 8 second left, ball was stolen, intentional foul 1 of 2 at the free throw line, Hiland inbound, Hawks score a layup at buzzer. Atmosphere was regional final-esc. -
tfloangelradio said 14 lead changes, 9 of them coming in the 4th quarter, to go along with 4 ties
-
majorsparkSolid defense on both sides. Shots were not falling for Hiland but alot of that a had to do with great defense from the pirates.

ricolahope all the Garaway fans found their way home last nite---it sure was dark out that late.
-
chainman_50Game Garaway should have won. G'way had lead under 2 minutes to go & fires up a 3. No need for that shot, should have held the ball and made Hiland chase on D. They did it 2 times. Great game by 2 very good teams. Shoul be a good rematch at G'way.
-
HesstonWasn't it Josh Y who hit one of two late or did both him and Noah go to the line late. Funny how it sorta blurs together the next morning.
-
Lucky_leroyGaraway faithful heading east on Rt 39 after another defeat = PRICELESS!!!! Hope the roads weren't too bad!!
-
ricolaJosh and Noah both hit 1/2 from the line late
-
GymshoeEnjoyed watching the replay of this one on Cable TV-2. Indeed, Garaway should have won. Missed layup with under a minute left and up by two, and, a rather wild three point attempt that missed badly. Garaway still had a chance with 8 seconds left, but, the execution on that last play was sloppy and Boyd made the nice steal to basically seal the victory. Hope all of you out there in the Sugarcreek/Berlin area realize how nice you have it..............big crowds, exciting basketball, great community spirit. Lots of schools have nothing that compares to that.

buckcci guess everyone has to remenber, this is still a young Hiland team with a 10 man rotating roles . 4 soph.and 6jr's. and when we lost 7sr's from last year team. i guess us Hiland fans are spoilded. if theses guys can kept improving this year, man o man look out next year. if we don't make to state next year, and even to the finials. there's going to be alot of pressure on next year's team to achieve there goal.
-
PariahGreat game that I enjoyed from beginning to end. Don't agree that Garaway should have won. The team that deserves to win is the team that makes the winning plays down the stretch, in this case, the last 1:15. Hiland made the plays, especially Boyd's steal, and they should have, and did, win the game.
Hope the one at Garaway is just as good, but if Hiland improves a little on 2/19 from 3 then they should be fine.
I was proud of both teams and coaching staffs. Just a great HS basketball game. -

Hiland has a very young team, and while I am agreed that they will probably even be better next year, i would hesitate to use the "S" word just yet.
PS. dude, your spelling is "attroshious"
