scotmichwhat are everyone's thought on this up coming season?

Old RiderShould be Northwestern's title to lose...yes?

That would be the conventional wisdom. I have heard that Hillsdale has a really strong group of kids as well. I'm assuming Chippewa and Waynedale, with their veteran squads, would be aiming for the top half of the league as well. Dalton will have to adjust to not having a 6-7 guy in the middle. Not sure about Norwayne, Smithville, or Rittman.Old Rider;1764584 wrote:Should be Northwestern's title to lose...yes? -
1486wdNorthwestern should win with arguably two of the top five players in the league. Their biggest threats IMO will be Dalton, Chippewa, waynedale and maybe hillsdale. Chippewa with breitenstein and Bennett should be tough. Waynedale with reibe and crew will also be a hard out. Dalton will be different then they have been the last few years without a true center, but that being said I expect a very good Dalton squad with good size and speed (most guys in that 6'2 - 6'4 mold.) Hillsdale has some players and some size, but they have been seriously underachieving the last few years. Norwayne should be solid, but I do t think they are a serious threat. Rittman and smithville will be at the other end most likely.

scotmichwell after watching 2 scrimmages for smithville. i see the same team from last year really. the can be very good when they want to, but fall in a habit of getting lazy with passing, and not moving the ball. they get up on a team, seem to relax a little, a couple of turn overs and the next thing they know their down 8 after being up 5... if they can clean up their lazy passing, and move the ball, i believe they will win more then they lose. there coach is not much help either, i really think hes not a very good coach.. IMO hows the rest of the county teams looking?
-
el choppoIm impressed so far with my bobcats. Big kid is a beast and should be an MVP candidate. Tough weekend but they lost to two quality opponents so i feel confident they can make a push for the league title. I think the cellar of the league is chipp, smithville and rittman fight for 6-8

An-Old-FanHillsdale wins but both Dalton and Northwestern both drop games at the Smith Classic
-
1486wdPretty impressed that Dalton hung with Ontario. Bulldogs definitely picking it up a little
-
1486wdHalf way through the season and I'm not sure if we know who the best team in the league is. What we do know - rittman, smithville and Chippewa are probably the bottom 3, but all dangerous and better than expected. Chippewa is coming on. Northwestern has underachieved in my opinion, two of the best 5 players in the league, but have not played like it consistently (supporting cast maybe not playing as good as was hoped). Hillsdale has a good record and while I have only seen them once, I was not that impressed as Dalton rolled them. The Bulldogs are really rolling as the new guys have hit their stride, knocking off waynedale in AC. The senior led Bears are a pretty solid bunch. Norwayne has really scuffled lately although with a healthy Weinman, they are arguably the wcl's best team. Should be an interesting finish

This has been the case for several years now with Alberts teams...folks over in West Salem getting tired of it yet?1486wd;1776431 wrote:Northwestern has underachieved in my opinion, two of the best 5 players in the league, but have not played like it consistently (supporting cast maybe not playing as good as was hoped) -
unc4lifeNorthwestern reminds me a little of Ashland the last two years. 2013 Ashland had a young team no seniors but had 3 guys who played varsity since Freshman year. High expectaions and finished 12-12. The next year everyone back again and they go 22-2. Most teams that are young make a huge leap between their junior and senior years.

1486wdBulldogs and huskies tonight at Dalton should be fun. Even though Dalton is a team with a lot of length, they just don't have a true post player to contend with Koch. Dawgs are talented and have been playing well, though. Huskies will have the best two players on the floor, but the other three are probably advantage Dalton

As far as I know, the game is tomorrow night. Regardless, it should be a great atmosphere and a hotly contested game. Dalton has definitely been on a roll, but this weekend will be really tough on them with a game at Hillsdale on Saturday as well. Northwestern was the favorite in the league going into this season, and they have a chance to get back in the top spot with a win against Dalton.1486wd;1778689 wrote:Bulldogs and huskies tonight at Dalton should be fun. The Wooster D3 district seems to be a toss up, with Northwestern, Triway, Waynedale, and Norwayne probably being the favorites. The Barberton D4 district will be very good as well. Mogadore seems to be a virtual lock for the top seed with their record and state ranking. Lutheran East could be a favorite as well. They have a few losses, but play a ridiculously tough schedule. Dalton, Hillsdale, and Cuyahoga Heights would also seem to be battling for seeds. Anybody know when the tournament draws are? -

I think every team in Wooster District is VERY thankful that Tuslaw isn't there this year. As far as a favorite..I agree its a toss up. And although Orrville's record is aweful, they played Triway to a last second shot and lost to Norwayne in OT. So I think the Riders would like another chance at either. Orrville has Tuslaw next week and then Northwestern the following week. Should be another fun Wooster District.187xovr;1778707 wrote:The Wooster D3 district seems to be a toss up, with Northwestern, Triway, Waynedale, and Norwayne probably being the favorites. I completely agree about Orrville. They are more than capable of getting hot and winning this district. Are they the favorites? Not by a long shot........but they have enough talent to win it. The district is wide open.Old Rider;1778806 wrote:I think every team in Wooster District is VERY thankful that Tuslaw isn't there this year. As far as a favorite..I agree its a toss up. An-Old-FanAll the rumbles coming out of Northwestern may lead to a removal of the coach. Kids wanting to quite and transfer.

1486wdI saw smith did not play in their Saturday night game. Figured there was some issues
-
RedRider1Has T. Smith officially transferred to Wooster?
Heard he got a T at Dalton as didn't play at all in the 4th quarter. Either school rule or an Alberts rule....
And he didn't play Saturday? -

I heard there were some more serious discipline issues for vandalism related issues on school property Friday night when they returned home from the Dalton loss. Alberts has to share some of the blame as the head coach, but putting all of this on him is extremely unfair. I'm sure there have been plenty of issues leading up to this for Alberts to leave him on the bench for the entire 4th quarter of a close game with the league title on the line.RedRider1;1779748 wrote:Has T. unc4lifeAshland paper had an article this morning. Smith is done at Northweatern, will be going to live with his Dad in Wooster and attend Wooster. Sounds like Northestern has some major problems. The pressure was already on Alberts, can't imagine how it is now. I'm not sure this team wins to many more games this season.

1486wdArticle in the daily record this morning. Sounds like smith deserved to be gone

unc4lifeI have been around high school basketball for a long time and never have seen a coach have a team rule that makes a player sit out a quarter for getting a Techincal foul. So your telling me you would sit a kid who dunks and hangs a little to long and pics up a cheap Techincal? There is no way you would ever do that. Has to be more to the story then that.
-
Old Rider
It has been an ongoing issue with this kid. As far as the team rule...I have seen that before where a coach makes a kid sit. Make an example of him. If its a cheap technical like hanging on the rim or an intentional foul, then I doubt Alberts would have sat him the entire quarter. I am guessing it was a technical for running mouth, foul language, arguing a ref/call...and there is not a single coach that should put up with that.unc4life;1780061 wrote:I have been around high school basketball for a long time and never have seen a coach have a team rule that makes a player sit out a quarter for getting a Techincal foul. was his T for dunking and hanging on the rim?unc4life;1780061 wrote:I have been around high school basketball for a long time and never have seen a coach have a team rule that makes a player sit out a quarter for getting a Techincal foul. I'll guarantee you it wasn't. Like said above....i bet it was an ongoing issue.el choppo;1780068 wrote:was his T for dunking and hanging on the rim?
And from the article, there needs to be an emergency custody hearing so dad can take custody and make his transfer "bona fide" in the eyes of the state so he can play right away for Wooster? How about no.....you screwed up and got yourself kicked off the team. Suffer the consequences.
What a mess....
