Hiland (5-0) 79 -- Triway (8-1) 60
-
tfloangelTriway led 33-30 at halftime. Refs really let them play in the first half.
Hiland came out and scored the first 9 of the third quarter and it was never closer than 6 or so later.
Dylan Kaufman led all scorers with 27 and half of that was in the 4th quarter. Noah Boyd had 15 and Jalen Miller had a huge second half to finish with 14.
Triway coach got T'd late on a questionable moving screen call to foul our Triway's #22. -
Mr. 300Nice win Hawks!!! Always good to hand the Purple People a loss from Holmes County.
-
september63Not surprised at all. I posted days ago Hiland wins this game!
-
wes_mantoothGood job Hawks. Was it a close game late or was it not in doubt in the 4th?
-
tfloangelHiland never led till early in the 3rd, but once they got the lead they never lost it. It was closer till things came apart a bit at the end for Triway and Hiland was shooting foul shots.
-
ricolaalways nice to take one in the Pit! Thankfully it will be my last visit there in my lifetime (I guess depending on what my grandchildren do...) Can't stand that place--you just hope nothing exciting happens within 4 feet of the side stripe or you'll miss it.
Close game for about 2 1/2 quarters; the hawks played a good second half and never looked back. physical game both sides--probably good for Hiland to be in a game like that. the paper (daily Record) had triway coach saying hiland beat them up physically. I didn't see it that way. I thought triway was the more physical team, but either way--nice win. last year Hiland seemed to play better away from home. This was our first away game and we played probably the most complete game of the season, so hopefully it keeps going that way. -

You are so right about the lousy place to see a game, you can't see the whole side of the court or the benches if you are sitting on that side. They should close off the doors and make it into the swimming pool it was intended to be.ricola wrote: Can't stand that place--you just hope nothing exciting happens within 4 feet of the side stripe or you'll miss it.

I don't think I have ever seen a triway game that wasn't really, really physical, so I can't understand why Snotty would be complaining. -
ricolait's no wonder everyone takes such a joy in beating Triway --with the attitude and behavior of their players and fans....
-
PariahNot to mention that danged purple Titan they stamp on your hand!
I had the privilege of being in the training room last year while Coach Snoddy was being interviewed after a game at the PRCC. The man is smooth and glib. I was very impressed. Jesse Jackson has nothing on him. So, it was wonderful to read him say in the DR "I have no explanation". But he did go on to say they got beat up and criticized the officiating in a round about way.
I enjoy the Pit and hate it. You can't see what is happening along the near sideline. They try to create a circus with the whole pre-game ritual. They crowd the floor with people. It's distracting, and perhaps meant to be intimidating. I think Coach uses that by telling the Hiland players to take it personally. Wasn't there for this one, so I can't back you on the players/fans Ricola, but I thought the whole atmosphere was ridiculous the times I did attend. On the other hand, I admire what they do because they create a true home court advantage whereas coming into the PRCC is often anything but.
Fouls were 19 Hiland, 21 Triway so it looks pretty evenly called. When we were there in 05-06 season, it wasn't anywhere near even. I think Coach Snoddy expects to get that advantage at the Pit, and when he doesn't, he will complain about it.
But the atmosphere and officiating is all window dressing. The team that has the better Jimmys and Joes wins the game. Dylan, Noah, and their teammates were better. When they had those dadgone Rottman's and their sidekicks, they won. Jalen Miller is quickly becoming a very key guy. Love his energy and how tough he plays. He has made them much better over the last 2-3 games. -
bigfishsmallpondHiland will be at the Schott in March.
-
tfloangelwow... thats a pretty big deal to lay at the feet of a young team during the first week of January
-
ricolahe's right; they will be there then. Either playing on the floor or watching. they pretty much go every year.
-
HesstonDon't know if Hiland will be 'playing' at the Schot or not, but one last thing about Snoody, I love his cowboy boots, you gotta have confidence and game to wear those and he has both.
-
tfloangelfair enough ricola. You ARE right there. And hesston, I agree about the cowboy boots. Well except the loving them bit. Last night the girls game at N'town was stalled for about 5 minutes while they had to wipe all the moisture off the floor from a bunch of guys high-fiving the girls when they were introduced. Snoddy's cowboy boots are about the only thing that I can think of as being more out of place on a basketball floor than those muddy shoes.
-
PariahAngel, the moisture delay was ridiculous, but more so was the fact that NCT's star player ends up being the only representative of the school who tried to assist the ref in getting the problem cleaned up.
-
ricolanot a big fan of the cowboy boots either, but then I'm not a big fan of much associated with the purple. He's certainly entitled to dress however he wants (regardless how silly it might look to some of us.). But he probably thinks I look silly the way i dress so to each his own. Like Hesston said, you have to have a certain amount of "chutzpah" to wear those in a gym, and he seems to have that.
(Already have 1/8/11 circled on my calendar, when the purple visit the Reese center. An 0/4 for the last four years would be awfully sweet!) -
thePITmanMan, such hostility towards our Triway Titans, and I'm not sure where it comes from. Someone please feel free to PM me, and we can chat. I'd love to be enlightened. I used to think that Hiland and Triway were 2 schools that respected each other and the basketball traditions... but maybe I was wrong about Hiland? I know we have a great deal of respect for them, but maybe they do not for us. It seems all the normally-respectable Hiland posters have done is bash our court, kids, fans, and coach. Maybe my opinion will begin to change of Hiland, as well. In fact, it already has. I have always rooted for Hiland's basketball team(s) in the past when we weren't playing them, and that will continue this year. Good luck to Hiland the rest of the way, and I hope my dad and I get to watch you in Columbus!
-
BaseballPit...Don't take it so personal ...cheez its only a few people rambling.....
-
majorsparkI actually like Snoddy's boots. Are they snake skin? I also like the atmosphere at the pit. I do agree it is not the best place to "watch" a game. After all you can't see the whole floor, so there are plays/calls you miss.
-
thePITmanSnoddy's boots are just something he's done, and Coach Schindewolf (Manchester's head coach) wore his in The Pit last night, as well. Just for fun, tradition, and something unique.
And thanks to the two of you that sent me PM's. -
THE4RINGZThe Pit is not the best place to watch a game, nor is it the best place to play a game if you are the visiting team. With that being said, I do like what Triway has done with the entire game time atmosphere there. It has the feel of a college game with the pre-game rituals, the student section, and the entire community involvement. I believe that is just part of the successful tradition of Titans basketball.
Should the levy pass in the spring and a new high school be built eventually, I am curious to see what the new "Pit" will be like. Obvioulsy the walls need to go. (although IMO the walls benefit Triway's aggressive pressing defense), they need more seating, a real sound system, and the crowds will continue to grow at each and every game. -
thePITmanWhen Triway gets their new school (and gymnasium), it will be very similar to Painesville Harvey's, with the floor-level bleachers (not raised like The Pit) but potentially (most likely) with the additional, separated seating section on one side, which you see in the photo below. (I took this photograph at our Foundation Game there this preseason)
-
ricolalooks a lot like hiland's gym with those colors, but that upper deck area with the glass balcony/railing is a little too reminiscent of garaway's to get too excited aabout it! But it's an improvement over the Pit as far as viewing a game is concerned. (make sure the upper border on that glass railing is perfectly blocking the eyesight of all the visiting spectators that sit up there to make their visit as miserable as possible a la garaway )
Iv'e hopefuly made my last Triway gym visit anyways (this gym sadly comes a couple years too late), and only one more visit to malvern's and CV's gym in my lifetime as well!
(and Pitman, just to clarify...nothing personal. just don't like the Pit to watch a game. Don't have a problem withthe party atmosphere --which I'm sure will continue with the new gym. maybe all the visiting fans will be separated from the home ones there?? )
