1486wdDalton is starting to come along the last few games, more intensity, better offensive execution
-
1486wdBulldogs playing well now. Getting a lot more well balanced offensively. Cody Steiner and Mitch Clark especially have picked it up. Are playing faster and using their length better. Also glad to see they are playing the freshman dalessandro the first half of Jv games, gets him more work and I think he is going to be really good next year. From what I have seen, Dalton and northwestern probably the most talented teams. Chippewa has the best player in breitenstine. Bennett tough as well. Second half of season should be interesting

I agree. The Dalton players look much better than they did earlier this season. Connor Clark is putting together a very nice senior season thus far.1486wd;1697463 wrote:Bulldogs playing well now. 1486wdCongrats to Dalton on their 3rd title in four years. Still smarting a little about that rittman loss and they wouldn't have had to share!
Wooster district should be very competitive. If I was placing bets on who makes it out, I would have Tuslaw, Dalton, northwestern, probably in that order are the favorites but with little difference between the three. Tuslaw is big across the board and very solid. I think orrville, waynedale, hillsdale and chippewa have a chance as well and I would keep them in the contenders category. -
Old RiderOrrville beats Northwestern tonight. This district will be interesting. I am not impressed with this half of the CO champ county team. Maybe Dalton will prove that they should have been the outright champ!

I don't think Dalton could have had any worse luck with the tournament draw. If Orrville beats Black River, Dalton is looking at Orrville, (probably) Tuslaw, and a tough game in the district finals to advance to Canton. The district final would probably be the easiest of those three games for Dalton. Orrville will come in to that game with more confidence than they have had all season.Old Rider;1707170 wrote:Orrville beats Northwestern tonight. This district will be interesting. 1486wdAgree, Bulldogs definitely got the tough draw. Nobody in the wcl is an outstanding team this year, both co champions had 6 or more losses this season. On a pure talent basis, Dalton is probably at the top in this district, but they sure haven't played like it consistently.

Old RiderI would not sleep on Fairless. I think they will make some noise in that lower half of the bracket. They open with Norwayne, then get Northwestern. Again, it is the first I have seen Northwestern (@ Orrville) and I was not impressed.

1486wdNorthwestern is talented, but are really all sophomores. They can definitely be taken out of their game.

No doubt they are talented, but their youth may haunt them in the tourney. They will be (should be) a force the next two years....but that will fall back on Alberts! We will see how far he can take this team...1486wd;1707382 wrote:Northwestern is talented, but are really all sophomores. They can definitely be taken out of their game. -
1486wdHaha, yes. If the huskies don't win the league and make some noise in the tourney next year and the year after, Alberts will need a long look in the mirror.

He will need more than a long look in the mirror...he will be looking for something else (employment).1486wd;1707419 wrote:Haha, yes. If the huskies don't win the league and make some noise in the tourney next year and the year after, Alberts will need a long look in the mirror. -

I think the league will be just as competitive, if not more, next year because I saw that 33 of the 40 starters currently in the league will be back next year. Should be fun.... -
1486wdThe league was very competitive this year, it just wasn't all that great. I think it will be better next year

FlashWhat's the matter with you guys , he's the coach of the year.

I regret everything I said. He is great!Flash;1707774 wrote:What's the matter with you guys , he's the coach of the year. -
FlashHas to be true, I read it in the DR.

1486wdBulldogs beat a very solid lake center Christian(I think they were 17-4 coming in) by 7 on some tired legs after a tough win on the road last night. Good games by Mitch Clark, Steiner, and Ryder especially. Connor didn't have his best game, but he stayed on it and had some big buckets late.

187xovrAnother puzzling tourney loss for Dalton last night. Tuslaw is a solid team, but I don't think anyone could've predicted a 35-7 score midway through the second quarter. The league champs went without a whimper. I'm sure the Dalton players and coaches are doing some soul searching today. I think we all need to just be realistic when assessing the quality of basketball being played in the WCAL. If memory serves me correctly, a WCAL team has not won a regional game in the past several years (10 maybe?) other than Smithville when they had Kornowski. I believe they won 2. Is Dalton in 1996 the last WCAL team to make it to the final four? When is the last time the WCAL crowned a state champion? Was it really Roy Bates' Northwestern team? I didn't look any of this up, and I could be wrong on some of it but I'm pretty confident in saying that the WCAL has much more parity than it does talent and quality of play. What changes need to occur for some of these conference teams to be successful in the tournament? It seems to me that the quality of play in the WCAL has been on a downward slope ever since the mid 90s. Maybe Hillsdale can pull some tournament magic and salvage some pride for the conference.

Old RiderI think Fairless will beat Hillsdale tonight. Setting up an all-PAC final
-
187xovrI agree. I think Fairless will win tonight.
