    Thoughts on the game?

Hill versus Jackson in the D1 prospect territory game! lol

Tough call but I'll roll with Matt Rhodes assisting his squad in a nail biter.

Good to see this game getting some publicity...HUGE HUGE game...

I have seen South play 6 times and here is my opinion on them.

Obviously the offense goes through Traevon Jackson. He has played very well all year outside of the Watterson game where he had a lot of bad turnovers, a missed dunk, airballs, etc...but otherwise he has been lights out. Outside of him, it is basically a bunch of very solid role players.

They may have their best PG in the past few years with Zeek Rodgers. He is very small, only about 5'6, but is very strong with the ball in his hands and has a ton of potential to get better.

Jones, Jennings, and Calo usually round out the starting 5, all who can shoot the 3 ball real real well. Favor comes off the bench and provides instant athleticism and scoring. They have a frosh (Marcus Williams, I think is his last name..) that has played very well when he has been in.

I think they beat North if they have 3-4 guys knocking down 3's and Traevon is getting to the bucket and finishing. If they get out and run after missed shots by North, I think they take this game. Basically I think this game comes down to which ever team plays THEIR PACE of basketball. North is more of the half-court, get the ball to Ralph type, where South is, pull down the rebound and get it up the court as fast as possible.

I just moved out of Westerville to finish school and am heartbroken I can't make it back for this game!!

Pretty sad that this game isn't getting any attention at all...I really dislike freehuddle and the lack of central ohio followers but I feel like there is no better option...

45-43 south with 3 minutes left

    South wins 49-47.

I got this text from my buddy who was at the game.

"last second layup with 1 second left"
  • detectivegibbles
Tevon Favor hit the game winner with 1 second left.

I just moved out of the state last weekend so I couldn't go, but from texts I got, basically I heard Traevon was a beast this game...

I wasn't there. I'm a graduate of South but have more of an alliance to Central nowadays. But always root on Calo's teams. Big win for the Cats, tough loss for North; but they will bounce back.

My buddy texted me at half, it was 27-24 South. He said Traevon had 19 or so at half.

Graduate of South as well. I have family on the team so I follow them religiously.

It is great to see all 3 westerville teams having success this year, but I can't help but smile for South, being the underdog going into this year and coming out 2-0 so far vs Central and North.

I agree. Big win for the Cats.

I'll say this also, even as a graduate of South; it's tough for me to root against North. As a former coach at Heritage MS, I had Ralph, Brad and Andrew Forrest as 8th graders on a pretty good team. All 3 are great kids and I wish nothing but the best for them. Also wish nothing but good things for Coach Thuman.

It is a blessing to personally know all 3 head coaches and I can't have enough praise for all of them. I look up to Mr. Thuman so much as a man, teacher, and a coach. I have known Brad and Andrew for years and have had the pleasure of watching Ralph on the AAU circut. You are lucky to have coached all of them at one time.

I can't wait for round 2 of North vs. South later this year.

Could not have said it better myself.

Great game unfortunately North couldn't pull it out. I think that North returns the favor at home. I can't wait for that game February 5th!
  • detectivegibbles
I think I am coming home taht weekend to catch that game...

Also throw in that I had Jonathon Jennings on that team at Heritage as well. Don't want to leave him out just because he isn't playing with the other 3 guys.

Saw North beat Canton McKinley Saturday night. Nice team. That PG is quick, and Hill is a nice player....makes some bad decisions and tries to force things sometimes, but when he wants to play at his peak, he's tough to stop.

McKinley was up 6 at halftime, but never felt it was safe....they just didn't have a go-to guy...and North did.

Tough to play on back to back nights with a long trip to Canton on Saturday....but they won both.

North is a team that no one wants to play in the tournament. Ralph can take over at any point in a game it seems and win a game by himself, and then throw in Nettles, DeBoer, Forrest, Etc...

I can't wait for the rematch with South on February 5th.

Forrest? He has maybe 10 points total in 9 games. Westerville North is a good team, but won't go far until they learn to play together. Lately it has been 3 (Hill, Nettles, DeBoer) versus the other teams 5.

CapCity was supposed to be at this game and film it. Anyone seen anything about that?

And North/South was truly one of the best high school games I have ever attended. The crowd, the stellar play, the hustle, and an ending that was unbelievable. What a game.
