Rossford 71 Eastwood 61

It would appear that the disparity between the NLL and the SLL is very wide indeed this season, as one of the main favorites to capture the SLL Title (Eastwood) lost in a game that wasn't all that close to Rossford Wednesday Night. Don't get me wrong, Rossford has a nice ball club this year but with the likes of Perrysburg, Bowling Green, Springfield, and Southview, they may be 4th or 5th when all is said and done. Those that have been saying that the SLL Boy's Basketball is way down this season, may be right. It's a shame because usually the SLL makes a pretty good account of themselves in all sports. I had made reference to this in passing a while back, but with this latest result, it would appear to be true. I think that unfortunately, the SLL is headed for a very long season and a very short post-season Tournament Run.

Have to agree. After watching Elmwood in their scrimmages, I thought they would be very competitive. But they haven't played up to the competition with the exception of McComb and New Riegel. Eastwood losing this game does surprise me tho. The one thing I always keep in mind though, is that it is a long season and teams peak at different times. So you never know.....

um I said it before. The SLL has stunk for quite a while now. The bottom line is there is not one good coach in the league right now. A lot of average coaches. None great or even good.

If you're going to be so critical of coaches, please tell us what qualifies you to stand in such judgment. And what decisions would you be making different than what you've seen this year?

I have seen the SLL going all the way back to the 70's Many great coaches passed thru the league. Even in the mid 90's The Sll kids lack basic basketball knowledge right now. Alot of that is most of these kids are involved in other sports and they seem to being taking precident right now. But on the other hand there is a lot of individualism going on right now and the coaches are allowing it. Simple things such as a head fake or bounce pass etc are for the most part gone in the SLL and the coaches dont say a word. Just recently this league had Reynolds,Dippman,Stollar,Christie and Meyer as coaches who are all much better than any coach in the league now.

Another thing your don't see a whole lot of is kid's using the back board and kid's with strong left hand dribbles.

I agree that there have been many pretty good coaches in the SLL recently, and the current group of coaches may not be, on the whole, as good or as experienced as some of the guys mentioned by "insuranceguy" in his previous post, but I also think that sometimes a young man can be a good athlete but not a good basketball player, and I think we may have a little bit of that around the League also. You watch some of these guys and it just doesn't seem that there is as much basketball instinct on the floor as in past years. I'm not real sure how much good coaching can change that. To me, natural athleticism is like a sprinter with speed. You either have it, or you don't.
