Midland Athletic League.....On The Verge of Christmas

  • Behind The Arc
With Christmas rolling around and the league having played two games within the league already, what are your thoughts early on?

    1. New Riegel has taken charge of the league early on with the big win against Carey.
    2. SJCC is unbeaten having come from behind in all of their games so far
    3. Calvert at 0-2 in the league
    4. The struggles of Hopewell Loudon and Mohawk early on have to be concerning.

New Riegel plays at Elmwood tonight.

    Buckeye Central @ Carey tonight.

Carey is where I thought they would be right now. Wish the NR game was later in the year but they will continue to progress as the year goes on.

New Riegel comes back to beat Elmwood 65-62. Elmwood led after 3 47-40 but couldn't put it away.

Carey over Buckeye Central tonight 63-60.

Since its Christmas I'm going to give you Santa's power rankings.

NR (2-0 with a big win over Carey)
    Carey
SJCC (5-0 they had to be at least top three)
SE (gave them the nod over Lakota and NB because they are 2-0 in the league)
NB (Lakota has the better record but I think this is where they belong)
    Lakota
Calvert (0-2 in the league but they are better than that)
OF (1-1 in the league and a couple wins on the year now)
Bville (0-2 in the league but a couple wins on the year)
    Mohawk
    SW
    HL

Santa's Little Elf dropped his list in our stocking and I figured I would report what they see.

    1. New Riegel is at the top of the food chain for the remainder of the year.
    2. Carey is still going to be a beast in the MAL and may not lose another game in the league.
    3. SJCC just keeps trucking with all these come from behind wins and great defense.
    4. North Baltimore and its senior class will get back on track and they will finish in the top 5.
    5. Lakota lead by Hoffman and Wiseman continue to impress.
    6. Calvert will not stay down for long. The North Pole still feels they are a top 4 in the league. They get the nod over SE up north.
    7. Seneca East is just like SJCC in that they are quietly becoming someone to watch out for. Young group of talent too.
    8. Bettsville as they feel that they are not as bad as they've shown early on. They will get it turned around, or they hope anyway.
    9. Old Fort plays hard and gets balance from both upper classman and the freshman Perry.
    10. Mohawk is a team I cannot figure out. They should be much better, but have struggled to score.
    11. Hopewell Loudon and the shooting ability from the outside mixed with the inside game will get better.
    12. St Wendelin is very young and inexperienced, yet had a nice league win already.

I'm not one to normally argue with the elves but SE has to be in front of Calvert at this point in the year. SE beat NB (I think Casey was out for that game). Calvert just hasn't played well yet. Also Bettseville in front of Old Fort when OF won head to head? I'm just pointing out some flaws with elves thinking. This is why I went right to Santa himself. lol

Reality is starting to set in at Seneca East any team that can defend the open Gym offense will beat them. I notice coach's only play is number 1 but it never looks the same. The only people that like Coffman coaching the Tigers is the other coaches in the league.

I heard NB gave NR all they could handle. Did anyone see that game?

New Riegel and Carey are obviously the class of the league this year. There are some solid teams, but the league seems to be a little disappointing to me this year. Bettsville was over-hyped, reality has set in at Seneca East, Carey has lost to middle of the pack BVC foe Vanlue, etc.

CDevil, Carey never plays Vanlue well in the regular season. I never put much stock into that game.
