DII Zanesville Sectional/District

  • Wooball
This is an 11 team Division 2 Eastern District Sectional/District Tournament held at Zanesville High School. Records should be accurate through the end of the regular season, except for Indian Valley. Can't seem to find any of their finals since the draw. Here are the Brackets:

    Upper Bracket
    (5)Cambridge(11-9) v (7)Claymont(10-10) - 2/21
Winner to play (4)Maysville(12-8) on 2/27

    (6)West Holmes(12-8) v (8)Philo (9-11) - 2/21
    Winner to play (2)New Philadelphia(14-6) on 2/27

Upper Bracket Sectional Final on 3/3

    Lower Bracket
    (1)John Glenn(17-3) v (11)Morgan(2-18) - 2/23
    Winner to face (10)River View(3-17) on 3/1

    (3)Dover(12-8) v (9)Indian Valley(4-13) - 3/1

Lower Bracket Sectional Final on 3/3

The winners of the Lower and Upper Brackets will play a 1-game District on 3/7 at 7pm.
I'd say this is a pretty wide open District tournament. Outside of John Glenn, I haven't seen another of the other MVL teams this year. Haven't seem West Holmes either, but they are almost always better than their record indicates. I could see any one of the top 7 teams advancing from this District tournament.

So why wouldn't JG have the bye in the first round?

And BTW, I'm quite pleased to see Dover with the chance to knock JG out this year(assuming the win over IV of course)!
Some very good teams here - it'll be no cakewalk for whoever gets out of the district.

With the #1 seed, you get to pick what line in the bracket you want to go on. A lot of teams don't like the take the bye, would rather play a game to stay in rhythm. When they do that, you usually get a result like we have here, where everyone stays away from them, and the 2 lowest seeds get stuck with the #1.

    Well...bully for the ECOL!
Either Claymont or New Phila will make to the District Championship after their impressive performances tonight.

Now we just need to get Dover there as well (to knock off the upper bracket winner)!

    There...fixed that for you.
Let's keep a proper perspective on this.

    Dear Mr. mirg,
("Dear Mr. mirg"? - ah, come on wes - I wasn't being that bad!)

As you hail from Zanesville, you no doubt know that Muskingum University(formerly Muskingum College) uses the "Muskies" as their mascot. Traditionally John Glenn High School had used "Little Muskies" as their nickname in homage to the nearby college. Now perhaps in recent years the high school has officially changed their mascot from "Little Muskies" to "Muskies", or perhaps the town folk and/or students no longer feel a reverence toward the age old college and just feel a bit more on par with the big boys if they use "Muskies" instead, or perhaps it is still officially the "Little Muskies" and, dammit, they just don't like being called little!
I honestly don't know. Perhaps an historian more astute than you or I will chime in with accurate facts of the matter. More likely no one will give a damn!

    Sincerely,
    C&GH
