Rosecrans and Hiland.
-
Big_Mirg_ZHSI figured i would start this thread because we all know this game will happen again. Lets keep track of the two teams seasons here. Rosecrans despite losing PG Phillis to ZHS won their first game against maysville by 20+ hitting 16 of there first 20 shots. Doing this with D 4 player of the year Kirkbride on the bench with three fouls most of the first half. Heard hilnad had a kid go down due to injury hate to see that. Heres to a successful season and another packed house at Meadowbrook in March!!

ricolaHiland has looked tough in 2 games. We'll have a better idea how tough after they play Malvern at Malvern tonite.
Still think the loss of Burch is going to really hurt down the road.
Who will be Rosecrans toughest games this year? Any loseable games?
Hiland has ramped up there schedule with Conotton Valley leaving the IVC. Brookhaven, @SVSM, and @Glenoak..a couple losses at least are likely. But agree likely to meet again. If so they need to think about moving to a bigger venue. A rematch this year would bring even more fans. You'd think OHSAA would want the extra revenue. -
PariahHiland coach Mark Schlabach says in the HC Journal that when Dylan (CO-POY DIV) gets a rebound and heads up court, if Burch were playing he would already be down on the other end for an easy bucket - and that's where the Hawks are missing him the most.
West Holmes was a really good team with a Phyliss-like PG and lots of size. I think a 60-38 blowout win against them gives good indication of the relative strength of this Hiland team. How they do against Malvern will give further indication. After that, we will have to see what they show against Brookhaven, St Vincent St Mary's, Orrville, Glen Oak, etc. By the time the tournament rolls around, we should know exactly what we have going on.
One thing I am absolutely sure of is the Hawks make it real hard on their opponents to score with great on the ball pressure, denial, and help. If they keep that up, it will serve them well. -

Being in the ECOL now there definitely is a chance for some losses. Play Zanesville at home(will be shoe horned in that place) and other League games will not be a cake walk. We play Pick Central at Pick also.ricola;1008673 wrote:Hiland has looked tough in 2 games. We'll have a better idea how tough after they play Malvern at Malvern tonite.

PariahI don't know how they will line up the district, but Hiland or Rosecrans could have to get past Malvern before a re-match could occur. Best to keep that possibility in mind.
-
ricolaseems every other year they change it up, with the sectional #1 seeds meeting alternatively. If that's the case, if Hiland and Rosecrans are #1 seeds, they may meet in the first game at Meadowbrook instead of the finals.
-
PariahI heard that Meadowbrook got fined for over-selling the tickets for the finals last year. Wouldn't mind if they would find a site with 500 more seats, but someone said that the fact that the place was jam packed gave the game a more exciting aura. I can see that, but I had knees in my back, a back in my knees, my wife pressing on my left side, and another fat man pressing on my right - and I was on the aisle!
-
ricolathey shoulda been fined...there were about 300 more peple than seats in that place. And sorry--that would have been just an exciting a game in an arena with a thousand more seats, and much more comfortable watching. Not a fan of "old school gyms with personality" (e.g The old Hawks nest, Strasburg's Old gym, Conotton Valley , etc etc). The time of "Hoosiers" is past.

Being in the ECOL will improve their chances this spring. Their schedule was weak last year.Big_Mirg_ZHS;1009002 wrote:Being in the ECOL now there definitely is a chance for some losses. hiland78Hiland gets by Malvern on their little floor 62-52. Good defense and too many weapons on offense.

What about Muskingum U's gym??? Just a thought. I'm sure Meadowbrook would protest, but there's got to be a better way to do this.ricola;1009349 wrote:they shoulda been fined...there were about 300 more peple than seats in that place. Lakeland/Hiland played there in the early nineties for a district championship. I liked their setup better than meadowbrook. Of course the result was great as well! -
PariahAngel just doesn't want to drive as far to see the game!
-
tfloangelGUILTY. Actually, if they made the switch I'd be lucky to duck out of class early to catch the end (if they play in the semi's and Hiland plays their typical Tuesday game). As for Saturday, I'll be praying for a mild winter, because THAT is a make-up day.

PariahHiland is at Tusc Central Catholic tonight. Here's the way we look at it BigMirg, it's practice for the Anabaptists to beat the snot out of the Catholics!
-
PariahHiland won 63-28 I believe.
-
ricolaif so, 'bout time we get a runaway win down there. We never seem to play a good game there. Same @ Ridgewood; we're due to at least not have a nail biter there

PariahThis team plays defense. They did last year, but they have taken it to another level. Dylan and Seger act like they could care less how many points they score - and that's a really good sign. In the TCC game, Dylan scored like 12 in the first quarter and that was basically it. He scored 4 from there on. They are balanced and they play really nasty defense. That is a combination that will make it really tough on opponents through the reg season and tourny. Not sure they are going to awe us with 50 point wins, but they are going to just make it so difficult for a team to beat them. You get the sense that whenever Dylan and Seger want to, they can take over the game on the offensive end.
