riders1Time to restart this thread as the earlier one was too early and got closed
The 2011 WQKT/Steve Smith Holiday Hoops Classic[INDENT]In it's 8th year now. I know it's 2 months off still, but thought I'd get the info out there for the Wayne Co. area fans on the site.
Hiland is finally a part of the Smitty and they'll jump right in the fire and take on Orrville in the feature game.
West Holmes is also back after a 3-year absence.....and North Canton Hoover will take part as well, bringing Viking coach Randy Montgomery back to Wayne Co. where he turned Triway basketball into a state power a few decades ago.
The whole lineup is as follows.
December 17, 2011
12:00 pm Triway vs. Newark Catholic
1:45 pm Northwestern vs. Lutheran East
3:30 pm Norwayne vs. West Holmes
5:15 pm Hillsdale vs. Norwalk
7:00 pm Wooster vs. North Canton Hoover
8:45 pm Orrville vs. Hiland
More info to come on tickets, but they're usually pretty reasonable. $10 at the door was last year's price. Should draw a nice crowd this year.
Here's the Smitty Classic results from 2004-2009 (gotta add 2010 when I get time).

This years games are much better than the Mercy Medical games in Jan 2012 at Hoover as that classic has gotten worse ever year as far as matchups, while this years Smitty Classic has gotten some interesting games !

footballnutI hear that the Neer boy transfered to West Holmes.....is that true?
-
Mr. RussellYes, Ryan transferred.
-
THE4RINGZThe addiiton of some more local teams should boost attendance. One of the best days of the year.
-
footballnutI think Ryan is a good player. That's gonna hurt us. West Holmes is gonna be good adding Ryan is going to make them even better
-
madman11Can't wait for the Steve Smith...lots of good local competition
-
majorsparkI'll be attending. Is the $10 good for all the games?
-
THE4RINGZ

I wonder what Mr.300's take is on this?footballnut;938780 wrote:I hear that the Neer boy transfered to West Holmes.....is that true? -
FlashHe's their chief recruiter for WH on the OC. Tried to get some girls from here to go to WH, but it didn't work. LOL
-
beatobamaWhere is the Neer kid from?
-
FlashOrrville, . Has a house here, but is living somewhere in the WH school district.

Mr. 300 and me_myself_i must have teamed up and found an "apartment" or "rental" for the move in.Flash;940925 wrote:Orrville, . Has a house here, but is living somewhere in the WH school district. -
PariahYeah, I'm wondering how 300 will handle this. My guess is that the only corruption of any kind is found east of Millersburg. Move ins to Hiland are shady, but those at WH are done solely for academic purposes.
Eventually, the shoe goes on the other foot.
I'm sure the kid made the decision he and his family felt they had to, and I will look forward to seeing him play. Good luck to him. -
ricolaWH apparently realized the only way to become respectable is to start recruiting. Heard they hired a recruiting coordinator and it's already paying off! They're a little behind the curve, but if they can pick up another one or two in the next year, that should help quite a bit!!
actually, they were becoming relevant quite quickly without this guy. I'm sure he will help out from what I hear..
(in case anyone doesn't know, this is all purely tongue-in-cheek. Kind of a shame it's come to the point that it has....with any transfer all one hears are accusations. It, unfortunately, will probably become more and more common place as the years go on..) -
riders1The beard cuttings were just a distraction so no one would notice the recruiting going on. Investigate those Holmes county teams

Mr. 300No transfers here on the West end, only move ins. The Neer's family purchased a house in Millersburg, and are officially members of the community. Unlike the high profile east end debacle, we do things properly here...mwaaa haaa haaa haaa!!! No phantom rentals for us. I'd wave to Kelly everytime she drove by my house during the day, thinking..."hmmm, ain't you supposed to be living in the east? LOL...you guys crack me up.
We don't need any Orrville girls here, we be pretty good already! Now if the want to play for a winner, then come on down. Mwaaaa haaa haaa haaaa haaa. -
THE4RINGZNeer's dad is a good old Northwestern boy, which makes him very good people in my book.

Unlike the West end in times past the East end is thankful for your "move in". A lot of good deals in the housing market. Glad his family found one. Looking forward to a competitive game for once instead of the 20-30+pt snoozers we have had to endure the last couple of years.Mr. 300;948840 wrote:No transfers here on the West end, only move ins. Did not know that......that's good to hear. Those folks up there are top notch in my book!THE4RINGZ;948847 wrote:Neer's dad is a good old Northwestern boy, which makes him very good people in my book. -

The cupboard has been bare for a while now. It's o'k though, the cycle will turn in the coming years.majorspark;948997 wrote:Unlike the West end in times past the East end is thankful for your "move in". doghouse rileyIt should be great this year. A day of hoops punctuated by some Coccia House pizza.

Any day that includes Coccia House pizza is a good errr great day.doghouse riley;949614 wrote:It should be great this year. A day of hoops punctuated by some Coccia House pizza. -
ricola
Agree. Things are improving in the west, and while I'm guessing Hiland may take this year's game, I don't see any blowout. Should be very competetive. Even more so in the coming years. Arnold for one is the real deal, and by his senior year (if not well sooner) they will make some noise.Mr. 300;949063 wrote:The cupboard has been bare for a while now. There will be a little less tension from my standpoint this year; we'll see how the year goes.
Def looking forward to the matchup with Orrville; been a long time since we played them.
