Baseball Final 4 Bracket: http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/bb/boys/2011/state.pdf
Last year was the first year I have been to the state tournament, and it was a blast! My girlfriend and I made a weekend of it, seeing all the games and keeping book for fun. We are going again this year and can't wait. I should be posting scores/updates on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/AndrewMarcum
Who else will be going to all the state tournament games? I met and chatted with someone last year at the state tournament who said he's gone every year for over 20-30 years or so. If I can say that when I get into my 40's or 50's, I'll be a happy man! -

Laley23Not that it matters TOOOOO much in HS. But Perrysburg has a ridiculously loaded pitching staff.

A guy I work with's daughter is dating one of the Perrysburg players. She called and said Perrysburg was down 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th and came back and won. They play for the State title on Saturday.Laley23;787757 wrote:Not that it matters TOOOOO much in HS. But Perrysburg has a ridiculously loaded pitching staff. -

Yep gave up 3 runs with no out in the 2nd inning. Came back to get a run in the Top of 3rd. Then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win! Matt Garbig bases loaded walkoff double.
Not sure who pitched for them today, but Kruzel is their ace and I think he will get drafted. Dominated the Toledo Area and is a lefty. 7-0 with 1.04 ERA, and threw I think 5 shutouts. Went 10 innings of shut-out ball versus St Johns when they won in 12 1-0 in I think the Regional Semis. -

actually, this was Schmenk, who is their ace---but it could be 1 & 1A for those two--GO JACKETS!!!

Not to be picky... but Willoughby South scored 2 in the top of the 1st (1-out, 2-run HR), then got another in the top of the 2nd (2-out RBI single).
Schmenk threw today, going 7 innings, giving up 3 runs (all earned) on 5 hits, 9 Ks, and 3 BB on 112 pitches (after throwing 27 pitches in the first inning, really settled down with innings of 17, 14, 13, 19, 15, 7). All "unofficial", of course.
That was a great game, and the championship Saturday should be a dandy, as well. -
BuckCrazyWish Rittman was there, they definitely were the better team against Springfield and I see Springfield won yesterday. I think the State tournament would have been a great stage for the Horner kid.

Thats what you get for listening to co-workers, smh. But Kruzel is actually their ace this year...per the numbers.vball10set;788755 wrote:actually, this was Schmenk, who is their ace---but it could be 1 & 1A for those two--GO JACKETS!!!

I actually meant they had 3 runs in the second, not that they scored all in the second. I guess it was a 2-out job though. So thanks for that correction. Again...listening to co-workers, smh.
I will be working the game tomorrow (for BCSN). Probably the first base camera, or game camera (behind home plate). So my information will be first hand -

...Jackets senior ace Alec Schmenk.
The comeback win enabled Schmenk to keep his perfect two-season mound record intact. He was 6-0 last season when Perrysburg ultimately lost to Olmsted Falls in the regional finals and is now 9-0 this season with a 1.09 ERA, 76 strikeouts and just 32 hits allowed in 64⅓ innings pitched. -

Were you working the city league championship game at Scott Park this week? -
vball10setLaley--who the hell was working the camera in the bottom of the 7th when Garbig got his winning rbi's? The camera stayed on the Willoughby outfielders the entire play and never showed the P'brg players running the bases and SCORING THE WINNING RUNS!!!! Was it a camera screw up, or a producer-in-the-truck screw up??

vball10setgreat run, Jackets!!!!
COLUMBUS — The Perrysburg baseball team’s magical run through the Division I state tournament ended with a 6-2 setback to Liberty Township Lakota East in the championship game on Saturday morning.
The Yellow Jackets (26-4) could not get the breaks and make the plays that got them to the state title game for the first time in school history. Perrysburg fell behind 3-0 after two innings and could not recover, stranding eight runners.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 5 in the final poll, got hits from seven different batters. But they committed three errors that led to two unearned runs before a crowd of 1,350 at Huntington Park.
Starter Matt Kruzel went 5 1/3 innings and yielded three earned runs. Kruzel suffered his first loss of the season (8-1) despite striking out five.
Kruzel, second baseman Alec Schmenk, and catcher Zach Kolvey each went 2 for 4. The trio are among eight seniors who led the Yellow Jackets to a Northern Lakes League title and second trip in school history to the state final four.
Perrysburg, which had rallied for three runs in its last at bat to win its state semifinal game on Thursday, again put together a comeback in the seventh inning.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board on freshman Mark Delas’ RBI double and added another on Matt Garbig's sacrifice fly to make it 6-2 in the final inning.
But Lakota East (24-7), which was defensively sound throughout, ended it with a sparkling play by second baseman Craig Thomson on a grounder.
Perrysburg reliever Matt Williams came on with a runner on first and one out in the sixth. He immediately coaxed a grounder that the Yellow Jackets turned into a double play.
The Yellow Jackets’ lack of luck then manifested itself in a potential double play in the seventh that could not be turned by a normally reliable infield. Shortstop Kevin Schenk could not handle a feed from Schmenk that could have ended the inning. Instead the error led to a run and a 4-0 Lakota East lead. The Thunderhawks added two more on an RBI single and a hit batter to put the Yellow Jackets down 6-0. -

I dunno, I wasnt down there for that game. I assume it was a camera screw up. None of our better guys wanted to drive down to Columbus for the pay we get. Its only 90 bucks travel for about 400 miles lol. -
