Hiland/Garaway/WestHolmes fans....

  • wes_mantooth
We were having a fun little discussion at work today about these three schools. I think I have stated before that I work with several amish...so it was quite entertaining. Anyhow, my question to you is.....if the amish were allowed to participate in school sports and went to school the full 12 yrs, what division would each of these schools play in? I am guessing Hiland and Garaway would be Div 2 and WH would possibly be Div1.

    Thoughts?

i would say all would be D2

Another question along these lines is if the Amish did attend these schools would they have buttons on their sports uniforms in place of zippers?

I'm with Hesston on that... I do know that someone said that even with the Amish kids that attend E Holmes schools we would be a very solid D3 if they went through, so imagine with all the parochial schoolers...

haha, don't you mean pins instead of zippers??? Somehow I think that would be against OHSAA regulations, tho.

It is so tough to figure....I guess you have to figure the amount of amish families in the area and multiply it by 16 kids per family...lol

If you could get that Troyer family from down just outside Mt. Hope you would have some serious bigs on the inside. They are all 6'4"+

There was about 50-70 amish high school age kids sitting over next to the student section at the Sandy Valley game last night.

If the Amish kids did play, Hiland would have to change their uniforms:

Home whites are replaced by dark blue uniforms.
Road uniforms stay the same black but with more plain colored trim and numbers.

Probably will need suspenders and long denim trousers, but some will play barefoot so you save on shoes.

    Bonnets on cheerleaders.

No games or practice on zursdays because someone's kin is getting married.

All the obvious jokes aside, Hiland would be the school that would have the greatest jump in enrollment, and it would be substantial. I'm guessing it would be by several hundred students (in the 400-500 range).

I think West Holmes will be getting the Troyer kid enrolled next fall. He's gonna be a good one....great baseballer, wants to play football, plus plays basketball. Can't wait to see how well he does in the public school if the family pulls the trigger.

hadn't heard of this. Do i know this kid/family? (tho don't know how you or anyone would know that) Are they enrolled in East Holmes?
  • me_myself_i
Don't think it would affect WH that much simce most of them are in the easten half of county.

Its about time you guys stepped up your recruiting efforts. Hiland has been cleaning your clock the last few years. Very ingenious of the West to hit up the Amish youth. Of course the family would have to "chump the fence" to watch their kid play.

Haha. He's a young man living in the west end that goes to GH. No recruiting was needed. We don't cheat on the west end. :)

tell you what the level of play would jump even higher cause these kids either play softball or basketball year around and there is a ton of talent out there

This is true. I used to play against some of them in tournaments at WH and at open gyms in baltic....some good ball players for sure.

Waterboys/trainers don't count as playing. Tim Arnold laughs when he hears your name mentioned.

So would additional buggy parking and hitching rails be in the levy plans?
