Final - Lake 58 - Genoa 41 Least I think that was the score... was around that figure.... Lake was very sluggish and made a lot of mistakes. Genoa wasnt able to capitalize on any of those mistakes. Lake woke up in the 4th a little and put in the JV team for the last few minutes of the varsity game....

Id say Genoa made a few more mistakes than Lake. Genoa turned the ball over almost 30 times, and let one player outscore them in the first 16 minutes. Id also like to know what you meant by lake waking up in the 4th as they were ahead the whole game. Doesnt say much for the rest of the league if a team can sleepwalk and still dominate the so called 2nd best team

so much for Genoas inside game handling Lake too

Lake got it done on Friday night. It looked to me that Genoa ran the same play every, let me repeat, every time down the floor. Dribble to the elbow, and try to pass over the top to a post player.

Lake's guards controlled the game from the start. Defensive pressure on the Genoa guards forced many turnovers.

The good thing for Genoa is that they have everyone back for next year, the bad thing for Genoa is that they have everyone back for next year.

Good luck to both teams the remainder of the season, and beyond.

I am not a bball expert by any means (I need basket ball for dummies)..... so my take on the game may be a little skewed.
I just meant they looked lethargic during most of the game. They just didn't seem to have their best game. Yes, Lake lead the whole game... (well there was a point when it was kind of close...lol) but they just didnt seem to connect like they normally do.
It does say a lot for the girls and says a lot for Meyers for getting these girls to play instinctively though!
The game did get boring watching Genoa try the same thing over and over. And it looked like turning the ball over to Lake was one of their plays after a while.

From my view point from watching Lake in other games... Genoa is not anywhere near Lake. The flyers have so much more depth then any other team in the league. And from what I see, Lake has depth coming up through the ranks as well.

I don't want to take anything away from the Genoa girls because I am sure they have been working their tails off this season. Genoa coaching just seems to rely on a single player to get the job done instead of using their entire team.
But that is just my opinion as a fan in the stands.

Then, based on this observation, Genoa hasn't changed its strategy much from last year. It was Eli all day every day. Now, if I had Simone Eli on my team, I probably would have used the same strategy!

Lake has far too much depth on both offense and defense. Coach Meyer does a great job of getting his entire team involved.

Lake over Elmwood on Thursday 61-24.

The Lake girls really seem to be putting things together (inside/outside play). Brittenham and Abbey both scored 18, and the three inside players totaled 18.

12-0 on the season, but much room for improvement, before the state tourney starts.

Hard foul by Johnson on the G-Burg player. Then some G-Burg people were complaining and yelling and Kontak gets up and yells at them and tells them to "stand on their feet". Then Vicars runs over and tells Kontak to settle and Spiess goes over to the G-Burg ppl that were yelling and they are escorted out. While walking out the student section is chanting "see ya later" and the guy from G-Burg flipped us off and told us to come and fight him. Thank god Vicars acted as quick as he did or that could have turned out to be an awful incident

TJ, please get your facts right before you comment. I am amazed about how you sound so confident about what happened, when you were sitting on the other side of the floor. I was sitting in the stands right by the Genoa bench. There was no foul! The Gibsonburg girls were "flopping' all night and Rachel was 3 feet from her when she went down. I asked the coaches about this and they said they saw no contact on the film. The reason Coach Kontak stood up was because the guy across the floor told Rachel to "F-off" when they were walking back to the bench for a time-out. A coach should stick up for his players when someone says something like that!

You can spout your junk on the boys threads! Stay off the girls stuff unless you know what you are talking about!

Game was less physical than Gibsonburg players made it seem. They have had a very tough season, and it boiled over last night. Both benches got techs for yapping at each other. Gibsonburg bench was upset at the end of the game folr Genoa not subbing out all five starters, but I don't think they knew that they only had four subs.

Congrats to the Lady Flyers (19-0) on their 2nd straight SLL championship, with a 48-37 win at Genoa.

Genoa hung in there for most of the game, but their key players seemed to get winded early in the 3rd Qtr, and that allowed Lake to take control.

Anyone else on here go to the game? What are your thoughts about the game?

Congrats to the Flyers! They play such good defense and work so hard, they deserve the SLL Title and the 19-0 record. I was impressed with the way both teams played. Both teams left everything on the floor.

Genoa did seem to get winded towards the end, but without help from their PG, Meis and Swartzmiller were exhuasted. I don't know about you Ghmothwdwhso, but I think Genoa did some things that better teams down the tourney road will be able to really give Lake some trouble. I did see that Coach Irwin and his staff from LB were at the game too.

Any chance if they Lake and Genoa meet again in a week in the Sectional Final that Genoa can beat them? The game last night was close enough at times to make me think that it will be a much tighter game in the tourney. Thoughts?

Don't know how you can be impressed with how both teams played, I thought is was a very sloppy game. And as far as girls being exhuasted, I could (but don't) understand how Swartzmiller was(which had nothing to do with the PG), but Meis may have been exhuasted from continually throwing the F-Bomb around.

To your last point, they will meet again. I think Lake will clean up their game and should have better success against Genoa. I don't understand how girls are getting winded this late in the season. It showed last year, in the last Lake-Genoa game, last year with Eli sucking wind in the 2nd Qtr. Are they not running in practice?

Don't know if you were at the game on Saturday, but I think the Lake girls answered your question in the first half. 25-2.

Genoa couldn't get the ball up the court (15 turnovers), and only was able to attempt 10 shots which all were strongly contested. They were able to knock down 2 freethrows though.
