new coach, new attitude. Basically 5 returning starters. You're the one who needs to wake up. You would think a fan of Struthers would be a little more humble after 1 good season, after all the losing seasons in the past.

New coach, new style in Salem. Although I made that post prior to knowing that Toothman was not going to play. Regardless, we should be competitive in every game, and win most of them.

Struthers basically gets their entire team back also? But they do not have to worry about the new coach because they have been working together for years. One good season with only 3 losses. I can;t remember the last time struthers lost a home game.

Salem beat Struthers in Struthers a season before, so you must have a bad memory
  • realdeal6
Struthers will be solid again this season, but I still dont think they make it out of districts. If it is gonna happen though this is the year....good luck coach sav
  • omemorialhigh
ease up there ohio...one good year doesnt make struthers the premier place to play basketball in the valley lol they have a good class, but you guys are gonna have to string together a good 5 years to start talking like you guys are the cream of mahoning valley. when the football team sux youll grasp on to anything huh
  • Ohio
When did i once say they were the premier team in the valley? They will win the white tier easily. Salem got smoked last night by falls campbell on the other hand did look good against lakeview.

This is a basketball thread. Thanks.
Struthers beat Campbell last year correct?
This class was the class that split with Salem Two years ago.
    They're all seniors now.

Yes, Struthers split with the Quakers in the 08/09 season on a buzzer beater in a real good game in Salem. they also upset a real good/very big Howland squad in sectionals i believe...they were a team that could upset any team when they were shooting good, but could lose by 30 when not shooting well. from what I see now Struthers is a much more balanced team than 2 years ago. The white tier will be interesting b/c Salem will only get better and the same to Struthers. I really feel like they are two similar squads.

Although the final score might give you the impression that "Salem got smoked by Falls", that is not even remotely accurate. The game was tied in the 4th quarter and the Falls hit 14 of 16 free throws down the stretch including the final 7 points in the last half minute to make it 84-69. Sembach owns the refs in his gym as the Falls shot 45 free throws.

The Quakers will definitely contend this year.

Falls doesnt lose much when the lights dim.

Didn't seem that way to me. Seemed like NF just kept Salem away at arms reach; I don't know if Salem ever even had a lead in the game. As far as the free throw discrepancy, seemed like Salem couldn't keep Falls from attacking the rim. Very weak defensively, both on the perimeter and interior.

    Salem - 83
    Niles - 62

Know Coach Sav, great guy, glad to see his hard work paying off for the Wildcats.

Salem at Poland tomorrow night; could be a high scoring affair.

    Go Quakers !!

Struthers vs Canfield Game of the week.
  • QuakerOats
    Salem 70
    Poland 71

Quakers come from 11 down to take a 10 point 4th qtr lead, only to lose it at the end. A couple of questionable calls down the stretch on Poland's home floor in addition to timekeeper failure at the end were costly. Tough one to lose, but Salem will win a lot of games this year; the new coach has this thing headed in the right direction.

Struthers beats canfield tonight by 20

There was another time in the game where the clock wasn't stopped on the whistle - let about 10 seconds run off. It was also in the fourth quarter. Not sure if it is true or not but someone in the stands told me one official was from Poland. Surely hope this isn't true. It was Salem's game to win - ball didn't get in the right hands with 8 seconds left... Big game on Tuesday - looking forward to it... the guys are playing with "hart"

Campbell's next 4 games: @Salem, @Hubbard, @Ironton Classic vs Brooke Point-Va, @Ironton Classic vs Ironton. The Devils better figure out a way to start scoring, or they are looking at 4 consecutive losses.
  • QuakerOats
Looking forward to tonight's matchup with Campbell; hopefully Salem can continue the good play and get a nice win.

    Go Quakers!!!

PS -- no school in Salem today, but I assume the game is still on for now.
