“Defense and depth are concerns we have,” Voll proclaimed.

Minerva (2), Louisville (2), Marlington (2), Coshocton, and Cambridge.

    OHSH on Carrollton:
Carrollton was extremely talented last year, but just couldn’t seem to be consistent. The Warriors finished the regular season just (10-10) and fifth in the NBC, but by tournament time things started to click.

The Warriors steam-rolled their way through the sectional with lopsided victories over Buckeye Local and Meadowbrook before beating state-ranked Dover in district play. Carrollton’s season came to an end to Cambridge in regional play a team the Warriors had defeated earlier in the year.

The team is still young with five of the top eight being juniors including one freshman. However, this unit is ready to continue its hot streak from last March.

With NBC rival Minerva moving to the East District things should be interesting come tournament time.

The Warriors will be led by junior Kristian Cross on the inside and point guard Johnny Lowdermilk. Look for break out years from Chris and Steve Ericksen along with sweet-shooting lefty Robbie Smith. Dalton will be the blue-collar working on the interior.

Carrollton will be one of the favorites to make the regional once again, but the arrival of Minerva may make things a bit more interesting.

Can't wait for this thing to get started. Gonna go to the Foundation game Tuesday night against Perry and to the scrimmages next Friday morning against Malvern & Edison ... and the ones Saturday morning against Loudonville & Garaway.
  • LocoEngineer66
How did the scrimmages go Friday night???
  • LocoEngineer66
Well our boys looked a little sloppy tonight. Only scored 5 in the first quarter. Nothing to be worried about though. They will be ready to rock & roll when Dec 4th gets here.
  • G_Callen
With Voll coaching will not be a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • LocoEngineer66
Warriors pretty decent in their scrimmages Friday morning. They won every quarter except the first one against Malvern.

The Malvern quarters ended up ...

    Malvern 21 Carrollton 16
    Carrollton 18 Malvern 11
    Carrollton 21 Malvern 11 ( i think)

Might be wrong on last score but I know Carrollton won.
  • LocoEngineer66
wow ... no Warrior fans on the new huddle ... this sucks.
  • Bud Kilmer
Better spread the word down in C-ton Loco.

    Talk all you want. :)

I was not able to make the scrimmage last Friday, but I heard the Warriors are quite athletic. I will stick with my "other" huddle statement; that Carrollton needs to topple the Minerva barrier to get anywhere this season. Sounds like both teams are loaded, so they could be great games this year. Imagine if they split in regular season and meet in Eastern District Tourney on neutral court.

I would venture to guess they will be in opposite brackets in the East District tourney and both will advance to Athens. I could be wrong but I think Carrollton will be in Zanesville 1 district and Minerva will be in Zanesville 2 district.

    D2 East District

Titles? More than likely the answer to that question is, no. However, the competitive nature of the East this season will be high.

Are there any state title contenders, not really, but with the tournament format set up it has assured the East one team in the regional final each of the last two seasons. Both times coming up short to Chillicothe and Logan Elm. Meadowbrook in '08 and Cambridge in '09.

Though, things will be slightly different in the format this season with only one SE team advancing to Athens as opposed to the two it got the past two seasons. OHSH has confirmed with the OHSAA that it will be two teams from the East, one from the SE, and one from the Central as it was prior to 2008.

This is usually not good news for the East and SE as the Central advanced its team six of the eight times under this format in this decade. Columbus East, Columbus Beechcroft (2), Columbus Linden McKinley, and Columbus DeSales (2) all punched its ticket out of the Athens Regional. Only Cambridge (2000) and Dover (2004) were able to escape.

This year's version of D2 in the East District is deeper than it has been and with the addition of Minerva business has increased even more. The Lions have come over from the Northeast trading spots with D4 Wellsville.

The laundry list of teams that should be primed for quality seasons are Minerva, Carrollton, Dover, Coshocton, John Glenn, Meadowbrook, New Philadelphia, and Buckeye Local.

Cambridge, East Liverpool, Maysville, and possibly even Claymont are on that outside edge looking in the circle.

Minerva (21-2) and Carrollton (15-11), who are both members of the Northeastern Buckeye Conference, are heavy favorites to advance to regional play, but of course, that is on paper and based off of last year's success.

Coshocton and Meadowbrook return almost everyone, and Dover will be Dover. Look for Coshocton to have a big year after the disappointing end to last year's season. Meadowbrook returns everyone, but will lack size. Dover's junior Anthony Monaco should really step to the forefront this season.

John Glenn and Buckeye Local each have one of the districts best players in Jake Heagen (John Glenn) and Joe Rine (Buckeye Local), while New Philadelphis has one of the finest inside-outside combos in Cody Cox and John Stephenson.

    Preseason 1st Team East All-District D2:

    Dave Brown (5'11/Sr.)- Coshocton
    Brian Harp (6'4/Sr.)- Minerva
    Kristian Cross (6'4/Jr.)- Carrollton
    Anthony Monaco (6'3/Jr.)- Dover
    Jake Heagen (6'3/Jr.)- John Glenn

D2 District Player of the Year:
    Brian Harp (Minerva)

D2 District Coach of the Year
    Justin Clifford (Harrison Central)

    6th Man:
Max Huddleston (6'4/Sr.)- Maysville and Joe Rine (6'7/Sr.)- Buckeye Local

    Breakout Player of the Year:
    Marky Thompkins (6'0/Soph.)- East Liverpool

    Impact Freshman:
    Stephen Erickson (6'4/Fr.)- Carrollton

Teams most likely to advance to regional play:
    Carrollton and Minerva

here is a link to last years so you can see how it was set up.

    http://brackets.digitalschoolnetwork.net/basketball/boys/index.html

Look under Div 2 ... Athens regional ... Carrollton was in Zanesville 1 district with Coshocton, Harrison Central, Meadowbrook, Buckeye Local, Steubenville, Dover, West Muskingum, John Glenn, Philo, and River View.

Zanesville 2 was ... East Liverpool, Indian Creek, Edison, Cambridge, Beaver Local, New Phila, Morgan, Maysville, West Holmes, and Claymont.

They were listed as Zanesville Districts cause that is where both championship games were played.
