Mohican 50-Mile Trail Race

Crazy people out there doing this yesterday, including my wife!! She completed the race in 12 hours and 2 minutes, just missing her goal of breaking 12 hours. My daughter was supposed to pace her the last 13.5 miles, but due to ongoing IT band problems the last 2 years she wisely decided it wasn’t worth risking her senior year of college cross country on such a hilly, rocky, rooted course. Instead I ran the last 13.5 miles with my wife, my longest run since 1985, and our daughter came down to crew for us! Race started at 5am, which meant we had to get up at 3:30 and leave the hotel by 4:15 in the morning (ouch). By the time I started running with her at 1:30pm it was close to 90, but thankfully the majority of the 50 mile race is run on hiking trails in the woods, very hilly hiking trails, but a lot better then being on the roads in the heat!! Can’t imagine how the 100-mile runners did it as they had a stretch of about 14 miles on the roads during the heat of the day!

Way to go Beth, 50 miles at 50 years old!!

    Way to go Mrs Stationrun!!!!!

    50 @ 50.

    That's pretty cool.

Now...it's your turn Stationrun. I am not giving up until you admit you're going to do one. ;)

Ha, ha ccrunner, are you crazy too?

Con_Alma, 13.5 was enough for me, besides Mrs. Station promised no more 50 milers, only 50K's! When you ran your 50 miler was it on trails, I'm getting old and can't remember? How long did it take you?

The first 15-16 miles of the JFK are on the Appalachian Trail. It was very rocky and very narrow.

The nest 26 -27 miles were on a canal towpath. It was flat...very flat.

I actually looked forward to the final 8 miles where it is rolling streets. The surface was a little hard at that point but the hills kind of helped the legs a little.

It was way easier of a course than Mohican.

    Your wife is a trooper.
