Strasburg and Garaway in the IVC
-
PariahIn past years we have had very strong Garaway and Hiland teams that were the most interesting thing about the IVC. You pretty much knew going in that one of those two teams would win the conference or that they would share.
In recent seasons, I have tried to identify the programs that may make a jump up and challenge those two. It's mostly been a disappointment. I've invested hope in Ridgewood, but they haven't quite gotten there. I think Strasburg has.
I think the most interesting thing about the IVC this year will concern the battle between Garaway and Strasburg. Can the Lady Tigers become the primary challenger to Hiland over the Lady Pirates? Thoughts? -
G_CallenDo they have size? I know when I was in the area several years back Strasburg always had nice size. Do they still have it?
-
PariahThey have Bonifant and Clark - both around 6 feet. Clark has substance to her - physical player. Bonifant is slighter, good athlete that can play outside. I think guard play may be their concern.
-
G_CallenWell I would think it would be hard to make gains on Hiland or Garaway without excellent guard play as they have had good guard play forever. I assume they still have that. Hope to fly in for the Classic in the Country who will be there?????
-
PariahGoogle the Classic and you will find it. Angel can tell you a lot of the teams once she finds this thread.
Hiland is playing Potter's House Academy out of Florida, Tallahassee I believe. They play a national schedule of 40 games and go all over the country. They have the #1 rated soph in the country - head coach's daughter. One coach told me that last year they were the best girls team he had ever seen. Gulp!
Hiland is also playing Mason from Cincy area.
Many of the usual suspects are back. -
HesstonWill Stutzman be able to play much this year for Hiland?
-
PariahAbout like she did last year. She won't play in, how shall we say, the less competitive games. Against Garaway, Strasburg, the Classic teams, and Regina she can give you 5 minutes or so until her legs give out. She gets about 15 minutes of rest and she can give you 5 more. It's not a lot but when she is in there, she impacts the game. It would be something to see what she could do if she was 100% healthy.
-
tfloangelStutzman looks pretty good so far... she's all over the floor and into EVERYTHING (what else is new) for as long as she can be then she basically subs herself out when she's hit the wall. She and Coach are both pretty set on a routine now, so they have a system that works. She's dropped a couple of pounds, but she's still very strong
-
tfloangelbtw, as for the initial question, I personally think it will be Strasburg that will give Hiland the best run. They've got stronger offensive threats than Garaway this year, imo.
-
me_myself_iHow is the girl that was in the car accident a few years ago? They called her Peach? Would or did she graduate I was not sure of her age.
-
tigerfan82Graduated last year from StrasVegas and is attending Tusc Branch this year.
-
PariahStrasburg is one of the featured team within the sports page preview of the TR today. Sounds like Coach B likes the prospects for the upcoming year.
-
Junior SamplesPariah, will you be making the trip to scenic Carroll County this week?
-
PariahTomorrow night, but I'm nervous. Malvern already has a game under their belt. Plus, Hiland is down two players: Karli Mast is playing for Tiffin and Myk Miller got bit by the ACL monster.
Ridgewood beat Coshocton last night (Babcock had 21) and Garaway had an offensive explosion (Troyer, Bardall, & Slemmer in double figs), scoring 51 against Indian Valley. They held the Braves to 16. CV beat Heritage Christian 95-20. Perhaps we should talk about the +/- of running up the score! -

The only thing you have to be nervous about is the bus getting lost on the way to Malvern. I am fairly sure they will have tickets available at the gate if you dont have them already -
PariahI am relying on Jr to have a pair of complimentary tickets waiting for us. Round trip it is 110 miles and 2 1/2 hours travel so I'd also like to have a reimbursement for time and milage.
Just hoping for a good game and no injuries. I'm anxious to see the improvement in the girls in green. -
tfloangelPariah - ill expect a full accountin between you and my aunt. I think it would be about 4.5 hours and more than 200 miles round trip for me.
-
jlghoopsI feel better already, I only have 8.4 miles and 16 minutes round trip
-
jlghoopsMy first chance to see the Lady Hawks in two years. Wow, the Stutzman and Weaver girls are really good. Stutzman is all over the court and Weaver off the dribble was incredible. I like the signature on the back of some of their jerseys.

majorsparkRidgewood downs Strasburg 51-44. Pariah, maybe that hope you invested in the Wood is starting to pay off?
-
Pariah
As soon as I saw that score I was like, "Ridgewood just answered the question to this thread." Good job Lady Generals. I'm guessing Strasburg's guard play wasn't too hot because their big girls are very good. ?majorspark wrote: Ridgewood downs Strasburg 51-44. Maybe RW can come up here Sat and knock off our Lady Hawks. -
PariahJlg,
I saw definite improvement in the Hornet girls. They played hard and to the end. Although the score may not indicate it, their skill level was noticeably better. Guy sitting next to me said he thought they may be the 4th or 5th best team in the IVC - pending seeing the others.
One of the most impressive things I saw with Hiland was their sophs holding the ball the last 3 minutes against pressure. They passed it around for 2 full minutes and only turned it over when the post got out too high and wasn't comfortable. Otherwise, they were flawless in their dribbling, passing, and decision-making. You don't see that too much in girls' bb, especially with young kids. -
Junior SamplesPariah,
JLG and I tried to find you, but there were so many bald guys in the Hiland crowd, it was hopeless. It looked like a Hair Club for Men infommercial over there. -
PariahYeah, we are the original inspiration for the Hair Club.
I wore a hat to avoid blinding players. I think I was the only guy with a camcorder, if that helps.
I was looking for you too. Didn't see a big guy in bib overalls! -
Junior SamplesMy bibs were at the dry cleaners.
