Michael Snowbarger leaving Smithville

  Wants to spend more time with his family. His wife, Jennifer, is the varsity Volleyball coach at Wooster. Both are Wooster grads...could he possibly take over the varsity job at Wooster in the future?

  I think Martin's done a nice job at Wooster....so i wouldn't think it would be anytime soon unless Martin explores another opportunity.
  
  Snowbarger doesn't sound like a guy who NEEDS to coach. He's got a job, wife and young children.

  I saw this in the DR. He certainly did a great job at Smithville, and left the program in much better shape. Good to see his priority is his family. Good luck to him in the future
  
  IMO he would be the dark horse to take the reigns at Wooster if he is ready to return to coaching when/If the position becomes available

  By now I am sure most people know but Jim Frizel got the job. He has coached for 20 years at Smithville as a freshman boys coach and assisted for the girls basketball team the last few years. When Snow got the job it was down to Frizel and Snow for the job, Smithville got the right guy IMO.

  Good luck to him. Snow certainly raised the expectations of Smithie round ball fans. Hope Jim can continue the program that has been started.

  I think coach Snow did a great job at Smithville, but remember he had a lot of height that no WCL team has seen in a long time. In my opinion I feel he actually failed as far as getting to state. I am not saying getting to state is easy but he had a two year window where I feel he should of made it in one of those years. But he never developed a bench and I think that hurt him, but that is in the past. Anyway I think Frizel will do a great job, he might not have the talent that Snow had but he will get the most out of them I am sure.

  Getting to state is a process, not an isolated event. Who did Smithville lose to this year in the tournament? Triway. What is their track record?
  
  Build a program and things will take care of themselves. You have to get the players to buy in.

  Not talking about this year was talking about when he had Kornowski, Baird, Bates etc. I know it is not easy to get their I stated that, it is a process, but then if you look at Orrville this year first year coach he did a nice job getting to state. I am just saying I thought in one of those years he should have made it, not taking anything away from him he did a great job getting Smithville's program back.

  But if you base it just on a talented class, you are riding a wave not building a program of success. Orrville has a great tradition and Sly capitalized on that. Because he understood the program.

  You can have great tradition all you want...but you still have to go out and win games. Orrville got over the "catholic hump" in regionals where Smithville came up short (twice). The Sleeping Giant awoke when Sly took the reins...so I guess him knowing the program did pay off.
  
  Good call on the bench...Smithville had a good core, but very little coming off the bench. Needed an extra guy or 2.
  
  Still, Snow did a good job resurrecting the program and now it's Frizell's turn.

  By tradition I mean confidence the kids in the program expect to win.

  Agreed RedRider1, 4RINGZ Orrville tradition under Smitty was confidence in the 80's and 90's, but if you look back over the last 10 years before this at Orrville they never made it that far out I am sure RR1 can give you the exact figures. Yes Sly had very good talent this year but you still have to push kids and have them believe in your program and before this year I would say the Orrville kids could not of had much confidence. But I want to say I think Snow did a great job not denying that I just thought out of one of those years he should of got to state IMO with the talent he had.

  I fully understand the differences in the attitude of the two programs we are discussing. Orrville has an expectation that permeates the entire program all the way down to the elementary level. Until the past few seasons Smithville has seen themselves as a football school that happens to have a basketball team.
  
  I think some of that has changed at Smithville the past few seasons due to the combination of talent and coaching. The future looks good for the Green, Black, and White.

  ^^^Agreed 4ringz hopefully Frizell can keep it going and I think he will.

  I like and agree with each of the last 9 posts. Good luck to Coach Snowbarger, whatever he does. Like someone said, he doesn't HAVE to coach. He has a great family, great job, and everything else he needs. Great guy, and I wish him luck!

  I think had Orr not been injured during Kornowski's senior year they would have won state.

  Loco, I agree Orr would have helped, but they did fine without him the whole year so you cannot bank it all on that. It also on a side note come down to Smithville not handling the pressure that CCC put on them and Bates throwing the ball around turnover after turnover. But it is in the past and now Smithville be be lead by coach Frizell, good luck coach.
