How in the world would you know that? Unless you were laying with your face two inches from the edge of the plate I can't imagine you could tell whether he only touched the black or not....WooHaa! wrote: safe

jscoreThis very play happened in my son's 10U game this year. A play at the plate, the catcher makes the tag. The umpire (after discussion with his partner) calls him out and says the runner never touched home. The runner left a footprint in the dirt, which touched the corner of the plate (the black). The umpire said that the black was not part of the plate and he was out.

Gblockin mlb the black part of the plate is buried under dirt but on many fields in hs or little league that part is out of the ground....you will get called safe on a play that close if you touch the black....the plate i beleive is 17x17

I would say that an ump is going to give the safe call though. Who knows... It's all judgement. -
darbypitcher22The plate is 17 3/4" wide...
I don't think i've ever seen anybody called out for just touching the black.... of course, I haven't played on a field for a while where home plate wasn't completely buried...
