Where else did the winds cause problems this past weekend?
I suspended the varsity boys' pole vault competition in Cardington temporarily because the gusts were just too massive. My crew couldn't even lift the bar at that point. Found out later that the high jump pit at the other end of the track got picked up by the wind. If I had known that, we wouldn't have resumed the pole vault.
The Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum reported that the meet in that town was stopped completely before the 300 hurdles. The hurdles wouldn't stay upright and they were worried about them blowing over into an adjacent lane during the race. A local farmer had to drag a pole vault landing pad back to the school with his tractor from over a mile away after it went over the fence and tumbling through his field.
Was told that the wind also picked up the pole vault pit in Pettisville, ending that event for the day.
