Ha, you again. You're not worth my time. My basketball knowledge has been fine on this site and the old site. Keep reaching though.

How many threads were there last year that called him the GOAT haha? Funny to see the flip flopping now that he isn't in Cleveland

Here's the point. You use the "how he left" to seek some sort of justification for being dipshits. You can say he took it to a new level or whatever you want, but Cleveland fans would've been tards about it no matter how he handled it and you acknowledged the fanbase's history of doing exactly that.

Lol...I started half of them. If you take anything thread that i start seriously.... you need help...lol. I think I lay on the sarcasm pretty thick with most of it.

there was never going to be an easy way to leave - especially after all of his two-faced talk to everyone involved (eg "i wont stop until i bring a championship to cleveland," "new york has been my favorite city," etc). doing the tv show was probably the worst thing he could have done. that enabled most of the hate (although i believe that hatred would have always been amongst some)

Any other fanbase in the country would have acted the same way in that situation.

I swear, people cannot get enough of this constant bickering back and forth about things they've been saying over and over again for months and months. I'll take a guess.. most of you guys that are usually the ringleaders in these type of epic dumb threads are the same people that go round n round about politics. I'm tired of hearing about LeBron fucking James and Cleveland. GET OVER IT. MOVE ON. How many times must you discuss it before it feels a void? Let's talk basketball, ya know, the x's and o's. I miss being able to just talk about basketball. I used to hate the Cleveland/LA talks, but holy fuck, I'd gladly take those days over this LBJ/Cleveland shit. You hate him, we got it. I hate some of my ex gf's, but ya know what, I keep the bitches names out of my mouth. If anybody wants to discuss the x's and o's of the conference finals, I'd enjoy it.

Doubt it. I've never seen the sense of ownership with other stars. It was always about how Cleveland wanted LeBron to be its savior and it came to be that he owed them something. Like since he was born there, he was obligated to improve every single life of anyone who watched him. Those fans had some unhealthy fantasy brotherhood with him waaaaay before he bolted. And that is why the reaction was so strong.

I've never heard another fan call a guy who left town a liar based on the fact that he "promised us a championship". My god, what would you have thought if he'd said, "you all know about the curse; there's no way I'm going to win a championship here so we'll just do the best we can until I can find somewhere to win a title"? But yeah, he made a personal promise to Joe Schmo sitting on his couch to win a title so he's a no good bastard.

The "Decision" reaction was just more of the same. I'm sure the conversation with Wade and Bosh at the Olympics went like this, "Hey guys, maybe you can help me stick one in Cleveland in a few years - we can all do it together." And then he called up ESPN and said, "I really want to bitchslap Cleveland on my way out of town, can we do a special?" Cleveland fans flatter themselves by acting as though he did this dastardly thing to them. While it obviously impacted them, it was never about them. Dude was always on an ego trip and that was just true to character. You loved it when he was there, you hated it when he wasn't your boy anymore. But it doesn't mean it was personal and thats where Cleveland fans are/were bigger tards than most sports fans.

Well said. People tend to forget that LBJ was deemed a "King" at age 17ish.

Pretty much agree with everything enigmaax says. Lebron has always been the same guy. Has always had a sense of entitlement and has always been an attention whore. Most people picked up on that a few years ago. Fans in NE Ohio were just completely oblivious to all of it

Be careful which thread you post on. Apparently discussing the biggest sports topic of the year (the Decision) is now considered trolling. Even though both sides were discussing it at length and more than a few people were involved

    Eginmaxx:

I dont think a fan outside of Cleveland can comment on how a Cavs fan should have reacted to that situation. Its always easy to judge when you're on the outside looking in. Bottom line is that we have never seen anything like that in the history of pro sports. What exactly did Cleveland fans do that was so outrageous? Burned a couple jerseys? Booed him when he returned to Cleveland? You act like fans charged the court when he returned.

There are quite a few people in NE,Ohio that felt a connection with Lebron James. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. Do you think people in Green Bay felt a connection to Brett Favre? How bout Chicago fans with Jordan? Steelers fans with Jerome Bettis? Thats what sports fans do. Only difference is that Lebron grew up 35 minutes down the street. You're acting like this is something new and different.

cleveland fans are the best, I for one am glad i root for a TEAM and not some individual. Cleveland til i die, enjoy rooting for the next pre-madonna athlete sq.

I'm not changing your words to be a smart ass. Every premise of yours can be applied to both sides.

Yes, I find burning jerseys to be a little psychotic. Hatred for a person that you don't know personally who didn't kill anyone or commit some kind of crime against you is a little disturbing to me. I get the sports fan/connection thing; it can be what makes sports fun. That doesn't mean some people don't go overboard and I've never seen a group go as collectively overboard as Cleveland fans in this situation. Some of the flip flops are just funny - he was the greatest, he needed more help, he didn't quit....until he left...then he's nothing without rings, Cleveland did all they could for him OR he hamstrung the whole franchise, and yeah, he did actually quit against Boston. Those things are expected and just funny. The other stuff, the personal stuff, is just damn weird.

I actually agree that I don't necessarily understand, simply because I can't fathom putting that much real emotional investment into someone I don't know who has a job that really has nothing to do with me.

Anybody that thought we were serious when we called Lebron the GOAT is clearly a ratard.

Ben Watson is the GOAT. Fact.

what about tennessee fans with lane kiffin?

dazedconfused;770895 wrote:what about tennessee fans with lane kiffin?

I worked in a few different parts of Tennessee for a couple weeks last year and didn't really get the same thing. The difference is that Cleveland fans followed LeBron into the season and still keep up nearly as much with him while hoping for his "suffering" (as some one posted somewhere on this thread) as they followed the team he left behind. Tennessee fans hated Lane Kiffin, but, they weren't talking about how they were going to root against USC every week - it was still full speed ahead with their own team. Nobody I talked to really brought him up and the conversation about him (when I brought it up) didn't really last long.

Like anything, I can only talk about my perception based on my experiences and encounters in both cases. Obviously nothing I've said is the definitive guide to fans in a particular city, its just my account based on what I've observed - I travel extensively and take a great interest in how fans in different places see themselves and their teams as well as how they see other fanbases. But of course whatever impressions I get are still based on a limited number of encounters.
