  I have to admit that I'm intrigued right now. There have been times when certain Pittsburgh fans like Rock and Capone have gotten over-excited about teams and you and/or LT have made comments to the effect of them being losers who have nothing other than their sports teams to live through. Solely based on message board posts.
  
  But...you guys are super hardcore going after people you perceive as bandwagon fans based on things like state/city pride, doing the right thing, etc. And it just seems to me that if you care so much about the topic to not just mention it (because simply mentioning it means no more than curiosity), but to be this confrontational about it ("POS bandwagon fans", for example), that if you aren't in the "vicariously living through your teams" zone, you're at the very least as emotionally invested in them to the degree of the people you ridicule for being overly emotional about their teams' fortunes.

  IF my team loses I dont cry about it and blame the refs (rock & non). Being passionate about your team is great, but with some people its all they have going for them (rock, non, capwned) to the point that they'll only admit to liking said team if the team is a top team in the sport that they play in. An example of this is Capwned only liking Pitt basketball when they were reanked 4th in the nantion, after they lost a few games he never mentioned them again,he claims to not be a fan of the Pirates though I bet if they were WS bound he would hop right on the wagon, or when the steelers lost the SB he didn't post on the site for well over a month (lol cry baby lol). This fair weathered fandom is shallow and they get so smug about it that they need to be taken down a notch. See Ishelp with the "Go OSU & FL fuck the SEC" or whatever it exactly says. That is beyond ridiculous. He's from fucking youngstown and goes to OSU. Being a fan of FL and OSU right now is simialr to being a OSU & Mich fan, or a Browns and a Steelers fan, or a Yankees & Red Sox fan. Its a pussy cop out way to avoid not having the best team every year. These idiots obviously can't handle losing or rooting for a team that doesn't win a championship every year. It speaks volumes to their character as a whole as well, they can't handle adversity or having to build something.
  
  Teams also take on the persona of a city. In football you always hear the term "blue collar" team which identifies with the city. Using that resembles a rust belt city with hard working folks IE run the ball and stop the run with a tough defense. You can say its entainment etc but its obviously more than that, esp to real fans who grew up with the teams, stayed with them, always read about them, go to their games/training camps, post about them on message boards, etc.... All you have to look at is the recent Saints SB, that was more than just an entertaining football game for New Orleans and its people.

  How is it different if at all from any business located in a respective region?
  
  If addition, if someone makes it "more than that", meaning more than entertainment does that imply that it's inappropriate to not keep it in perspective and treat it like it's intended form of entertainment?

  Do you have trouble understanding and accepting that people can and do appreciate and enjoy sports, teams and athletics without investing emotions into teams and players? ...that those who do so give to the sport revenue as consumers and receive entertainment value for it. Is that a bad thing? If so can you help me understand why it is?

  Like I said before, I just made the competition, the people who perceive bandwagoning to be negative turned this into a negative thread by crying. Trying to compare me to capone/rock, because I don't believe in bandwagonism is a stretch. I have never seen capone post anything that was not pittsburgh or clevelandtroll related. We could be discussing the budget cut, and capone will someone how turn the thread into a cleveland sucks thread hahaha. As for rock, he literally only talks about pittsburgh sports, and cries when no one else is bowing down to his favorite teams. Based on his posting style you would think he thinks the pens are the greatest team ever on ice, even though they are only a 4th seed. What they do is truly pathetic.

  I don't think so. I do know, however, that my county has a public awards ceremony at year's end recognizing the top 30 companies measured by a variety of factors such as job growth, sales growth, etc.

  Isn't it kind of weird, though, that people become so emotionally invested in a team of which they are not a part and in players who they do not know personally? I mean, do you have family or friends or pets or a job - something in which you could have a true emotional bond?
  
  Every sports fan chooses his/her favorite team(s) for one reason or another. Proximity is no better a reason than having a rape fantasy about the QB (Capone). Familiarity is probably the single biggest factor for most people. Proximity can certainly boost that familiarity, but unless you want to go to every game or something, it certainly isn't an exclusive or even necessary characteristic. Two extremely critical elements of familiarity that you discount (intended or not) are personal influences and national television. If your dad watched a certain team all the time, you probably either came to like or came to hate that team. If the only person in your family with whom you shared an interest in a certain sport liked a particular team, you probably either came to like to came to hate that team. If you have had cable TV for the last 30 years, you could have seen nearly every team in the country play. The reason you see so many Lakers, Celtics, Yankees, and Cowboys fans is because those teams were on national TV more than any others during formative years (for my generation, at least). When you see a team on TV every week or every other day, you are likely to either like them or hate them.
  
  You made rules for yourself and that is fine for you. But your obsession with others' tastes/interests is more a reflection of your own self-loathing about having to follow your own silly rules instead of opening yourself up to other potentially fulfilling tastes/interests. You picked your team based on what is important to you. You aren't any farther ahead - you get no additional benefit or reward based on the reason that led you to that decision. So, you know...have fun with that.
