I often implemented this strategy with Michael Bennett. There was also a really fast wr that was always available in FA. Oh the old days of madden where you could just bomb it deep to fast receivers.

I would put off drafting a RB because I had him leading the league in rushing, only to realize that he sucked when I saw what I could do with a good RB.

Michael Bennett was an every-year staple of my best friend's franchises. We also had the same rookie/second-year WRs who had great speed like Bethel Johnson and a couple others.

BETHEL JOHNSON! That was the really fast wide receiver I was trying to think of. I also did some work with Jamal Lewis when his break tackle was a 99 and a few rounds of the training camp drills enabled me to get his speed up into the 90s. Couple that with the 05-07 truck stick and my run game was unstoppable.

JaMarcus Russell was also a madden-beast for a couple years because he was cheap, somewhat mobile, and had a 99 arm strength.

2005 was about the last year I've really played Madden. Got way too obsessive when I realized my friend and I were sending massive geek-squad team-building emails on a near-daily basis. The best part was that at that time, EVERY franchise seemed to start with J.P. Losman or Kyle Bollar as our starting QB. They were essentially the same QB back then (good arms, mobility, plenty of room to grow into a long-time 95+ guy), but cheaper and easier to acquire than Roethlisberger, who had comparable base numbers. And there were about 3-4 slightly lesser Bethel Johnsons we'd go after (it says a lot when you're drooling over a group of video game players and the only one many people have ever heard of is the Stallworth dude who got busted for vehicular homicide).
