Computer Has a Virus...HELP!
-
sherm03My computer got hit with a virus late last night, and it's driving me crazy this morning! It's a rogue antivirus software and looks just like Windows Defender. The only problem is, every 2 seconds, it pops up that the computer is infected and prompts you to "purchase the full product." Everything I've read online says this is a sham, and now I'm trying to get rid of it unsuccessfully. Everything I've downloaded to try to remove it will scan the PC, identify the virus, but then try to charge me to actually uninstall it.
Anyone know a good FREE download to remove the rogue antivirus virus? -

Mohican00AVG Free, 9.0?
Not sure if it will work in your situation but it's worth checking out. -
sleeperType whatever the name of the faux antivirus into google.
There usually is a link to remove such things provided by people who are much smarter than us. -
sherm03I've done that sleeper. Like I said, all the programs that I found identify the virus, but require me to purchase the full version in order to delete it.
I was just hoping someone else had gone through it and could offer advice quickly.
I'm trying one right now Mohican...but if it doesn't work, I'll try AVG. Thanks. -
Tiny285JoeyYou shouldn't be banging your computer...

sherm03I got it. I used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free software.
That was a bitch because it got to the point where the virus wouldn't even let me open up the programs. I had to run the program as the administrator to allow them to install and run.
Fuck people who create viruses. They should all have their skin removed with a potato peeler and then salt thrown at them. -

I think when my Norton subscription runs out, I will look into purchasing the full malwarebytes software. The free version is great!sherm03 wrote: I got it. I used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free software.

namod65A good place to go is www.Bleepingcomputer.com. Just post on the virus forum and they will walk you through step by step with different programs until you are clean.

patriots34My parents had something like this on their computer. I ran malwarebytes in safe mode and that fixed the problem.

BlueJayRayI had the same virus on mine a few weeks ago... and it's a nasty thing... I gets into the boot sector and bios... Luckily I had ghosted the hard drive a few weeks earlier, so I was able to put the original hard drive back into my computer, then just copy the most current data... After spending nearly 6 hours trying to get it off, we finally gave up. I think you are looking at a c:format...

se-alumI'm yet to run into anything that malwarebytes can't fix. My parents got one of the Antivirus 20** viruses, and I tried all kind of free programs to remove it. I was close to just going into the registry and removing the files, but found malwarebytes and it saved me alot of work.

WebFire1. MalwareBytes
2. If that doesn't work, ComboFix
