DarkonI assume you are talking about fast pitch.
Fast pitch softball I found very hard to hit. I was not accustomed to hitting a pitch from an underhand thrower. The ball moves defferently and they are much closer. After a while I got the hang of it. Only played one season. -
Laley23I can see how someone would think that. Hitting a softball is like hitting a rock. The thing doesnt go anywhere. Connect with a baseball and you can hit it a mile and hit it at a much higher velocity.

That's not the question track fagccrunner609 wrote: running a marathon -
GOONx19Until we're talking REALLY fast softball this isn't even a question.

no one gives a shit about track, start your own thread if you want to talk about that!ccrunner609 wrote: why debate whats harder between 2 things that arent hard. -

Easiest thing Ive done in sports. I was able to train for one in 2 months and finish without problems.ccrunner609 wrote: running a marathon -
jmogDepends...
If you are talking slow pitch softball then your friend is an idiot.
If you are talking fast pitch softball then the two are REALLY close but even as a guy who played baseball into college, I'd say fastpitch softball is harder than fastpitch baseball due to the hitting.
As for running a marathon...please, any decent athlete can train for a couple months and run a marathon without much problem.
No way you could one train like that and in the end hit an 80 MPH curve ball if you just don't have the hand eye coordination for baseball. -
Thunder70I've hit tons of HR's during softball. I hit 2 in baseball in HS.
Baseball wins... -
BR1986FBI got into this argument with a 40-some year old man when I was about 13. He said "slow pitch softball is much more difficult...it's an 'art form." I said "it's a pussy sport for a bunch of baseball 'has beens' who want to relive their glory days and drink beer." Try hitting a 90 mph fastball or a slider that drops off the table vs an egg tossed, grapefruit sized sphere.

SnotBubblesI play softball.
If I played baseball, I'd drop dead. -
swamisezI find that baseball players struggle hitting softball because the timing mechanisms they use to hit actually hurt in softball.
Hitting a good fastpitch softball pitcher is guess work, you essentially have to shorten your stroke to the point it is hard to generate power. It becomes all hands no lower body.
That being said, you have to have extremely quick hands to hit. Most women don't this is why softball games seem to end up 1-0 when a good pitcher is on the mound. Great pitching in baseball still rarely yields 1-0 games.
The mound in fastpitch is probably a little too close for competition to occur at the highest levels. Its more like bowling with the pitcher hitting spots and the batter serving only to occasionally reach base via the walk or an error. -
McFly1955Eating a sandwich is harder than softball for men...Seriously.
I played in my first men's adult league last year...Never again...Bunch of 25-50 year olds still living in their parents basement reliving their high school baseball days and playing each game like it's game 7 of the world series (arguing included). Don't get me wrong, it seemed like 10% of the league was decent/cool people, but the other 90% can easily ruin it.
I'm 6 years out of high school varsity baseball, and that is obviously much more difficult. -

HitsRusThere's no comparison between slow pitch and baseball, but anyone who thinks men's fastpitch softball is "easier" than baseball probably has not played both games. The games are 'different'(as others have alluded to) but comparable in difficulty. One thing that has not been touched on is infield defense, which may actually be tougher in softball. (90 feet to throw someone out is a comparitive luxury). Again I'm talking about competitive fastpitch...not church/beer leagues.

Obviously this is opinion, but having played baseball, I'd have to agree that hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports. Goin against a guy who throws one chin high at 90mph for strike 2 then breaking off a nasty curve will buckle your knees and make you look like a fool for strike 3.
They also ranked running a marathon as 7th hardest thing to do in sports...just sayin. -
Thunder70^^^ agree ^^^

This is why I do not play 3rd base in softball. Its called the "hot corner" for a reason...HitsRus wrote: There's no comparison between slow pitch and baseball, but anyone who thinks men's fastpitch softball is "easier" than baseball probably has not played both games.
