Brett Favre

  • bartsimpson
Another off-season, another year of Favre being completely selfish with regard to telling the Vikes what his plans are. The draft is coming up and the Vikings have no idea whether he'll be back or not. They just had one of their management guys on ESPN saying they hadn't talked to him for 4 or 5 weeks. Now the Vikes are saying if he wants to play that "being late for training camp would be ok". What does that say to the rest of the team? I don't understand the fascination with this guy. He was great, he's still good, but there are a lot of guys much better than him in the league who don't get this type of treatment.....though most of them wouldn't take it if they could.

Childress already told him to take all the time he needs, so the Vikes obviously aren't (publicly) pushing him to make a decision one way or the other.

Oh rly? Can you name this "lot of guys" please? I can think of 3 quarterbacks I'd rather have for one season, only 3.

    Manning
    Brady
    Brees

Possibly Rodgers as well, but that's it. I certainly wouldn't say there's a "lot" of guys better, and when youre talking about the most important position in football, I'd rather have an undecided Brett Favre than the quarterbacking situation of about 25 other teams.

Edit: And before you say Philip Rivers, I'd take Favre over Rivers because Rivers is less talented and doesn't know how to win in the clutch.

I think it could very well be the case that Favre plays this game now specifically to get out of camp. He also clearly loves the attention.

I mean, he pretty much point blank indicated he was retiring before the NFCC. There simply was no reason to do that if he had any thoughts of coming back.

He showed up less than 3 weeks before the season last year at 40 years old and proceeded to have the best season of his career. He doesn't need the training camp, and all he only does the retirement dance to get out of it.

kevin williams, the pro bowler DE for the Vikings has said basically that he "really respects favre and he could careless if he showed up to training camp. He has been to nearly 20 of them by now and he knows the drill; hes paid his dues. I would hope if I made it that far people would understand if I didnt come"

That's my point. There are quite a few other guys who "don't need training camp"...but they do it because that's what team players do.

That people's past accomplishments buy them the right to be treated differently than others, and that "fair" is where you go to earn a ribbon.

I dislike Favre on so many levels, and this is one of them.

Will it be Medicare A and B or will it be a Super Bowl Ring? Which one will come first?

He already has a ring, so that already came first.

    I'm thinking not.

With all the other wanna be thugs and criminals playing in the league, I think Bretts retirement decisions at the end of each season are minor compared to.

    Shooting yourself in the leg
    Having ownership hire babysitters
    Running dog fighting rings
    Drinking and driving
Running people over on the highway
Being accused of sexual assault....twice even.
    Being caught with drugs
    Being caught with guns
Being caught with drugs AND guns
    Demanding to be traded
    Pouting because you were traded
Running a drug and whore house across the street from the practice facility
Being a passenger on the "love boat"

Yeah, he would never say he was done and then come back.

You'd rather take someone who twice has thrown an INT on his team's last possession of the season (in overtime of a playoff game) and say that "he knows how to win in the clutch"?

    Mmkay then.

I'll take Farve over Rivers because Rivers is a gigantic douchebag.

Between the two of them, who has pulled the "Oh, I might retire" game for the last seven years? Which one, in the midst of another offseason languishing over what to do, called a press conference at his charity golf tournament and hinted that he was going to announce something, then stood up there and said "I have nothing to say, so I don't know why you're all here"?

    Favre- League MVP 3 times
    2 Conference Championships
    1 Super Bowl Ring

    Rivers- .....

    Well, my choice is clear.
