Nickleback the NEW Metallica?
-
ksig489Nickleback lyrics are generally in the same rhyming format which makes many of them sound the same. Im not a big time literature guy, but I believe it is called Iambic Pentameter. The 1st and 3rd line and the 2nd and 4th line of every stanza rhyme with each other. Listen to tons of Nickleback songs that have been on the radio and you will notice it.
EXAMPLES:
Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing
Tired of living like a blind man
I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling
it's not like you didn't know that
I said I love you and I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause living with me must have damn near killed you -
RotinajI wasnt aware the words that and bad rhymed. But what do i know, im only a doctor.
-
ksig489Those words rhyme because the vowel sound is the same in each...also, they can be sang in a way to make them rhyme. If you listen to the song...they clearly do rhyme.

Mr PatNickelback is pretty terrible.

AC/DC
Nickelback
You and I...we're not friends anymore. -
SQ_CraziesNickelback isn't bad from a lyric standpoint. It's their music that has as much creativity as a blank wall.

jmogI do agree with post-Black Album Metallica sucks. I like about 1 or 2 songs total off the Loan/Re-Load crap albums and then 0 songs after that.
I will say this, Death Magnetic is MUCH better and is back to the And Justice For All and earlier sounds.
I rank Metallica albums like this...
And Justice For All
Master of Puppets
Black Album
Kill'em All
Ride The Lightning
Death Magnetic
All the rest suck. -
Upper90I feel like anytime Nickelback comes up, at least 2 people say, "I just don't get the Nickelback bashing...."
IMO, it's easy to get, because in the opinions of a fair amount of people, they aren't good musicians.
And, as Heretic said, anyone calling Nickelback metal, doesn't know much about Metal. I can hold my own in a Metal discussion, but would never be called a Metalhead....but Nickelback is nothing more than power pop, at best.
As far as Metallica, eh. They've made some great records, IMO. A few disasters....they're kind of par for the course, for a band that's been around for their length of time. Death Magnetic was a nice surprise. -

I would say Death Magnetic is a lot like And Justice For All. They finally went back to the "old" Metallica and got away from the crap that was on albums like St. Anger, Load, and Re-Load.ccrunner609 wrote:

No, they just aren't great musicians. Their creativity is off the charts terrible.WebFire wrote:

Being a great musician isn't the only way to make money in the music industry though. Look at Kiss. T-Pain can't sing for shit, but he utilized something that would allow him to make money even without the voice. Lady Gaga sells music with publicity. And she is a pretty good musician but she makes shit music--but that's what A LOT of people want to hear so she gets paid. People like to hear Nickelback release the same song over and over again. I'd do the same thing if I were them. -
justcompeteYou want metal?????
Black Sabbath
Led Zep
Deep Purple
That is where it all came from, and they ARE the kings. -
AngelI hope not. Not even close.

death magnetic is a lot like and justice for all, with the length of each song but it is nowhere near as angry as ajfa. ajfa was the first album after cliff burton diedjmog wrote:

GeneralsIcer89How the hell did a topic like this ever get started? Nickelback is a worthless group of trash. Their songs don't just sound the same - many of them have the same damn repetitive chord progression. And how the hell does a band from Calgary become Stars fans? Oh, that's right...even their home town told them to GTFO.

Strapping Young LadDoes SOS have any idea of what is and what is not metal??? I guess not.
Does he have any clue about music, even dreaming that Nickelback could hold Metallica's jock strap (and I agree that Metallica is no longer metal)????
Metallica actually impacted music. Nickelback is a laughing stock, as you can see.......
You want metal???? This is fucking metal!!!!!!!!!

I don't think most of you got my point. For a lot of people, bands like Metallica, GnR, Motley Crue, AC/DC, and others were what a lot of us grew up on. Now it seems that music has taken a turn... Kids these days listen to some of the weirdest music. All this "emo" rock and "scream" rock is what kids consider an equivalent to groups mentioned above. Seeing how most here do not like Nickleback, they have a ton of songs that have made the charts and continue to do so. What I am asking is this what "kids" now-a-days consider a metallica-type band from back in the day?
I agree that Metallica's newer junk is just that. Personally I am a Fade to Black fan. And yes, I do listen to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and others. I just don't get the transition to this newer music as compared to the roots in which it cam from... -
NateIf Nickelback is the Metallica of now, I consider Miley Cyrus the Tupac of tomorrow.

Swamp FoxNo offense, but I'm still getting used to Metallica.

I think you need to clarify just what the hell your talking about. Emo bands weren't likely influenced by much metallica. I think you're lumping all modern rock in one large group and it doesn't work like that.sonofsam wrote:

What do you mean "is this what kids consider a Metallica-type band from back in the day"???? In what way???? Do kids like the bands they listen too as much as you liked Metallica back in the day???? Probably.
Scream rock??? There are infinite types of "scream rock".......Some are influenced by metal, some are inspired by bands who were reacting against metal.......
I think you're outta your element here........ -
