The most important question EVER. POLL

  • skank
    My friends and I have discussed this over and over, and we seem to be split on it, let's hear what you think.

    If someone calls you and tells you they're going to pick you up at 2:00 P.M., then they call back and say, I have to push it back an hour, what time are they going to pick you up?

    1:00 P.M. or 3:00 P.M.?

    3 definitely
  • GoChiefs
    3:00

    3 fer sho. 1 pm doesnt even make sense as an answer.

    My initial reaction was to say 3. I voted that way but I could see the possibility of 1 also after thinking a little about it. It would seem to me that if they were going to come a full hour early, this would necessitate the forewarning more than if they were going to be 1 hour later. I'm sticking with 3 but I see the potential confusion that might result from such a message.

    If they were coming at 1:00, they would have said "I need to move it up an hour"

    Back=Later

    back = 3
    up = 1

    I couldn't either, but honestly, one day at work even, we asked about 10 different people and it ended up pretty much a tie.

    pushing forward means getting there sooner=1
    Pushing back means late=3

    1 makes no sense at all.
    The answer is 3.

    1 makes a little sense if you are thinking about how you count (1,2,3,4..etc) moving back from 2, you would go to 1...so i can see an argument but that is definitely farfetched and would agree they mean 3:00

    Alright I voted for 3pm but after really thinking about I'd say its 1pm and here are a few reasons why.

    1)Since it was just daylight savings this is a great explain most people use the saying Spring Forward(move ahead an hour) and Fall BACK(go back an hour).

    2)Im sure we all have say we wish we could go BACK in time and change something that we did. Back refers to a period in time that has already happened just like 1pm would happen before 2pm.

    3)I don't think time is really any different then counting or saying your ABC's and when you speak of going back its the number/letter that came before so its like going back from 2pm is 1pm just as going back from 2 is 1 or going back from B is A.

    I guess its really all how you look at things and interpret the way they said it. And this is why I also say later or early that way there can't ever be any confusion.

    How is something so obvious the most important question ever? Thread title is very misleading.

    Have to agree with everyone else. Push it back definitely means later. The poll is a runaway at 44-0.
  • cat_lover
    Push it back means later.
  • Glory Days
    "push it back" and "push it to the right" both mean later. "move it forward" or "to the left" mean sooner.
