Don't you just love when you open up a new bag of chips and its half empty?
-
Glory DaysJust sat down with a big bag of salt and vinegar chips only to be dissapointed when it was almost half empty. i know they need a little room etc when they fill the bag, but its almost getting ridiculous.
-
2quik4uyea i always wondered why a rival company wouldn't fill there bags to the top and then advertise about it
-
ytownfootballJust last week the ole lady managed to pick up what must have been the only package of hot dogs ever shipped with only 7 dogs instead of 8. Maybe it's just me but I think it would have been something I would have noticed. Should have bought a lottery ticket that day.

THE4RINGZWould you rather have a half empty bag or a full bag of crushed chips ?

3/4 of both!THE4RINGZ wrote: Would you rather have a half empty bag or a full bag of crushed chips ? -
Little DannyI bought a bag out of the vending machine in my office last year and it only had four Doritos in it. I called the vendor and they gave me a refund plus another bag. Fortunately the second bag was pretty full.
I had never seen anything quite like that. -
SnotBubblesI saw this on television;.....the bags are full when they leave the factory. However, they settle during transit and while sitting on the shelf, creating the void.
However, it does seem to have gotten worse lately, so I don't "fully" agree with it. -

I think we are being sold the mass not the volume. -

I think you are being sold weight not volume. Mass and volume would be essentially the same thing is this situation.Con_Alma wrote:SnotBubbles wrote: I saw this on television;.....the bags are full when they leave the factory. darbypitcher22I don't think I've ever experienced this phenomenon of which you speak
-
WebFireSome people just like to complain about everything.

Ruhr? You mean mass and weight are essentially the same, right? I presume the OP bought the chips on earth.THE4RINGZ wrote:

WebsurfinbirdI hate when this happens, and I think it would make a great Pringles campaign. No matter what, you pretty much get the same amount of chips in each can.

No matter what you pretty much get the same amount of chips in each bag of the same size. How would that differentiate Pringles?Websurfinbird wrote: I hate when this happens, and I think it would make a great Pringles campaign. justincredibleI want to buy a bag of chips one day and there just be one giant 16 oz chip in there.
-
Con_Alma.....but you wouldn't be getting as much as if there were a lot of chips in there!!
-
ts1227It still weighs what it says on the front of the bag, regardless of how big of a bag they package it in.
-
ytownfootballPringles did use their packaging to illustrate the "form" of theirs compared to the "crumbles" in a bag...also how much grease was on them by dumping them on paper towels...pretty sure.
-

wonder if they could save money by making a smaller package.ts1227 wrote: It still weighs what it says on the front of the bag, regardless of how big of a bag they package it in. -

They did the grease thing on commercials before, but regardless of how they may market the packaging, Pringles have a shitload of broken chips/crumbled stuff at the bottom of their containers because of their packaging not really protecting the product whatsoever.ytownfootball wrote: Pringles did use their packaging to illustrate the "form" of theirs compared to the "crumbles" in a bag...also how much grease was on them by dumping them on paper towels...pretty sure. -

i would still say they have less broken chips per container percentage wise than regular bags.ts1227 wrote: They did the grease thing on commercials before, but regardless of how they may market the packaging, Pringles have a shitload of broken chips/crumbled stuff at the bottom of their containers because of their packaging not really protecting the product whatsoever. -
charliehustle14Same with Girl Scout cookies. I felt like I got jobbed so bad this year.

IggyPride00I have also noticed this phenomenon. The $4 bag of ruffles now seems to have about as many chips in it as the $.99 bag did about 10 years ago. I looked at it and its down to like 9 ounces for the bag.
I do wonder in another 10 years how much smaller and more expensive our food will be. Companies have been forced to keep shrinking sizes and raising prices over the years in the quest to keep economic growth going for shareholders.
I have always thought though there is only so much you can charge for a bag of chips or a pop though, and at some point people will stop buying them. It seems like alot of these companies have pushed so aggressively on price over the past decade in particular that they are going to reach that ceiling where you can't really raise prices much more without crippling your sales. Then what do you do for growth?
Will we ever see a world where a bag of chips is $6 and a 2 litre is $3+? Because if the next decade is anything like the last, that is where we are headed. I just have a hard time seeing people not pushing back at some point.
Sorry for going a bit off topic, but food inflation is somewhat fascinating to me as it seems prices have really risen at the same time packages shrink. I just kind of wonder how long that can realistically last. -
j_crazythat's what you get for eating salt and vinegar chips.
GROSS!!
