Scariest Movie

  • ernest_t_bass
What is the scariest movie you have ever seen? I want to rent one that will make me freak and lose sleep. Nothing like a Friday the 13th, but a real horror flick.

    Give me some good ones!

For me, Fire in the Sky is pretty freaky.

Great question ... I will give you one NOT to rent: Paranormal Activity. That movie sucked balls!

^^ that movie almost caused me to choke my wife out because she wouldn't listen to me (or the internet) that it wasn't really a recovered home movie.

children of the corn always gets me.

Well said. The only thing that kept me watching was the hope that the chick would lose her shirt. lol

And Paranormal Activity was one of the worse movies I have ever laid down money to see, I was pissed when I left the theatre!!

Night of the Living Dead 1968 Black and White!

Out of the more recent flicks, I'd probably have to go with Hostel.

    Agree about The Exorcist.

Still need to check it out but I hear the Japanese horror film "Audition" is supposed to be pretty scary.

Add me to the list of people who thought Paranormal sucked balls ...

Fire in the Sky is freaky as shit! The Exorcist is the scariest for me.

I always hear about this movie as well; really want to see it but it sounds pretty messed up.

... The movies that scared me the most was the Omen (1976)

and The Shining with Jack Nicholson

Totall agree! It was terrible. I watched The Fourth Kind a few weeks later, and it was able to get the bad taste out of my mouth, thankfully. It was a similar type of movie, but MUCH better... and if you have a window by your bed and can see outside, you WILL lose some sleep. It's creepy!

Here is what I would recommend:
Ju-On (the original, which was remade in America and called The Grudge)
    Jaws
    The Exorcist
    The Omen (original)
It (very long movie, but creepy)
The Hills Have Eyes (original or remake, NOT "Part 2")
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original or remake, NOT "The Beginning")
    The Shining (another long one)
Reincarnation (you will feel very weird after this one)

I have over 120 horror film DVD's, so I've seen a lot. If you want creepy/scary, I'd go with those to start.
(the titles above are clickable links... it's kind of hard to tell)
  • End of Line
Cannibal Holocaust (I will never watch that again)
Halloween (saw it when I was around 5yrs old and it scared the shit out of me)
    The Exorcist (Fuck this movie)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The remake scared me pretty good)
The Descent (Damn good movie that scared me)

I keep seeing Jaws on all kinds of lists about scary movies. I don't get that, I don't think it's a scary movie at all. Sure, you might not want to get into the ocean, but it's not a real scary movie.

Not the best horror movie, but the only one to scare me was Candyman.....granted, I was only 12 at the time, but it scared the shit out of me.
  • Darkon
    The Exorcist.
The only movie that ever got to me.

    ...great line from the Exorcist!

A lot of people refuse to go into the water because of this movie. I think that qualifies. The opening scene is pretty creepy too. . . but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Obviously I'm a fan of Jaws. hahahaha!

I need to muster up the courage to watch it ... I saw a two-minute clip on a Bravo special on scary movies and that alone creeped me out.

^^^Thanks for the idea...I will be watching The Audition in about an hour and a half.
  • CenterBHSFan
    I've watched "Audition" before.

It wasn't scary, it was just gross. I didn't have any lingering creep-outs afterwards and was just disgusted for the most part.
  • Glory Days
    White Noise freaks me out.

    In no order...

    (1) The Haunting (the original, not the cheesy remake)
    (2) Night of the Living Dead (the original)
    3) Halloween (the original)

The first two are in black and white.
