Nintendo Wii Mods

Has anyone out there modded a Wii to play backups?
  • dlazz
I modded mine a long time ago. I ended up selling it though. What questions do you have? I'm pretty sure there are some softmods available now.

I modded mine with the 'Twilight Princess' hack.

Anything special to burn the games? What is the easiest/safest softmod? I'm not going to put on my network.

Have you updated your Wii at all since you bought it?
  • justincredible
Modding your Wii is illegal. I've forwarded your IP addresses to the police.
  • Nate
No, its on its way here. Just purchased.

    I lol'd.

If you just purchased it I believe my method won't work with that either.

I would agree. I chipped mine.

I used one called the Wiikey. It was a "simple" solder, but it took me an hour and a half because I suck at soldering.

Your best bet is to find someone on craigslist to do it for you.

P.S. I wouldn't get a Wiikey, there are other alternatives that are newer/better.

    Have you done this?

If the Wii is brand new it won't work. Newer firmwares patched out the soft-modding, if memory serves me correctly.

I think LJ monitors that forum.

This is correct. I'm looking to trade my new box for an old one now.

You also need to watch..if you do buy a game..you are REQUIRED to update your Wii before you can actually play it. I bought the wife that DJ Hero game..and it was a requirement to do the update or the game wouldn't even play.

Yeah, I was afraid of that also. I was planning on burning all my games anyways. The firmware isn't the issue with the new boxes. 4.2 is the newest firmware and the hacks I have will work with 4.2, unfortunately, the drive in the new boxes doesn't read DVD burns.

There's a program you can get that strips updates off of the disc.

Just bought a Wii as well and looking to hack it.

While we are talking mods, anyone know how to mod an original xbox for downloaded movies and emulators?

    MrPoke,

If you just bought a brand new one, you will not be able to mod it to play burnts but it will play WADs and emulators. Your best bet is to find someone who is willing to trade you a new Wii for an older Wii. Then it is cake. I can PM you the instructions but its useless with new Wii's.

My old boss was an Xbox hacker like no other. If I was still there, I'd get the info for you. I'm sure it's out there though. Google XBOX as a Media Center.
