I have piloted a helicopter in my time, not in the military or commercially, but at a private level. What this pilot did is absolutely amazing withstanding his injury and landing this helo to safety is top notch. Flying a helo takes pinpoint concentration, especially with the stabilazation of the machine flawed by gunfire. I would assume the pilot performed an autorotation to make his landing as quickly a possible to get out of harms way, this is a standard manuever in an emergecy situation like engine failure. This soldier filled a tall order in a split second and saved the lives of the others and himself, unbelievable considering the circumstance.
