US Men's Soccer: vs the Netherlands, 3/3

Besides the fact he's never done anything of consequence on an international stage, nothing. I saw a lot of talent in him a few years ago (he's stupid fast and athletic) but to say it fizzled would be an understatement.

Yayyyy respectability! It's all because Bornstein had his sorry ass dragged off the field.
  • tk421
Wow, they called a foul for the U.S.
  • gorocks99
    Close to a PK, damn.

what the hell was that Spector?
  • Speedofsand
Eddie Johnson is from the same little town as Mardy Gilyard

Can't say we didn't have chances to tie it up at the end.

they should pull the goalie and try to steal some of the men's hockey team luck.

Ball game ... 2-1 Netherlands. Hard to review b/c I didn't watch it on TV, but it sounds like we had plenty of trouble with them early, but took advantage of their laying off the gas pedal late to make it a game. Bornstein needs to be punched in the face, and the whole defense needs to get better (Gooch, where are you?) but it was a decent last tune-up before the WC.

i dont think we really had a lot of trouble with them, as in they didnt exactly dominate us. a stupid penalty and a deflection is how they won.
  • Upper90
Pretty much, this loss = 99% Bornstein's fault.

    Blah Bornstein.

We're without two pretty important players aren't we?
  • gorocks99
Davies, Onyewu, and Dempsey are all competent/solid starters for us at this stage, and we're without them. Hopefully they're all healthy, and in good form, by the WC.
  • I Wear Pants
If I remember correctly all of them are expected to be good to go at least a month before the WC which would at least let them be in decent shape.

Also, it isn't like the Netherlands is a weak team.

I am actually impressed it was this close..I didn't get to see it and I'm sure the dutch dominated the run of play and possession..but at least we kept it respectable and if it wasn't for Bornstien we would have done a lot better. Did Ching play at all??
  • gorocks99
Nope, Ching wasn't even on the roster

I know bornstein was responsible for the first goal, but the second goal was not his fault. deflections happen and he tried getting in the way of a shot, which any goalie would appreciate. it just did not go our way. it could have easily been 3-1 had bornstein not disrupted Illia's breakaway.
As a whole, the team played sloppy but had great opportunities and played great down the stretch. that will not get it down in June however. Beasley looked awful and hopefully will not have a ticket to South Africa. Eddie Johnson and Findley were awful. Donovan was nonexistent. Torres, DeMerit, Jozy, Bradley, Spector, and Bocanegra all played well. Howard did his thing in goal. The US has a long way to go if we want to compete. Onyewu, Davies, and Dempsey are players we need healthy. Hopefully we get things figured out for June.

I made the comment to a friend that there are long stretches of time during international play where I forget that Donovan is even out there. He simply vanishes.
