Half Marathon runners.....

thavoiceSome races coming up here in May. Flying Pig in Cincy, Indy Mini, one in cleveland.
Anyone running in any of these?
Did my first HM last fall at the USAF in Dayon. Enjoyed it immensley even tho I had to start like 10 min late.
BUnch of us are doing the Indy. Was wondering...anyone do one in consecutive weekends? Was thinking of Indy and then Cleveland.
After the USAF I felt so amazing that next week. Took me a few weeks to hit that wall that some get right away. -
UA5straightin2008My girlfriends dad has done the flying pig before and i would assume he will be doing it again this year..i think he is 49, and has 3 marathons and numerous 1/2 marathons under his belt...im 19 and can only hope to do half of what he has done (in regards to running) when im that old lol

Manhattan BuckeyeIMO back to back half marathons would be tough if you're in it for performance unless you are just an incredibly talented runner. Heck, I'd have trouble doing back to back 10Ks.

Manhattan Buckeye2 races on consecutive weekends. I've done mid-week races in the past (almost all charity related), but these days it is either a saturday or sunday run.

I ran my first one last summer, in San Fran (very hilly, challenging course). While I'm a pretty good runner, I'm also an older guy; I followed an online training program for beginners, and it was outstanding. Trust me, if you have a base of running in your workout schedule (and I am typically only a 10-11 mile/wk guy), you can prep for this in 8 wks. -

You really cant just go try it. Marathons take some preparation

Didnt know you were a runner. Didnt read that way. What times are you guys running in these if you are only running 10 miles a week? -

thavoiceYeah Im kicking around the idea of consecutive weekends for the HM. Actually a saturday then the following sunday so it woudl be one week and a day.
After the USAF I felt amazing. MY last two miles were teh fastest by far of the race and I felt fantastic for weeks. Few others I ran with hit the wall immediately afterwards like ya hear often.
Of course the second one wouldnt be a time to PR or anything. I was happy with teh first one. My goal goin in was 2 hours because up to that training I never ran more than 7 miles. After the training i changed my goal and was hoping for 1:50 and comfortably got under that by a few minutes so for me..that was a great time. And I believe I can do better.
thing is I gotta find when the cutoff is for the second one. Id like to maybe wait till a few days prior for sure. -

Its a one mile loop....really dont think Id like that! I get bored when I do ten miles on the bikepath that is an out and back setup..cannot imagine running a mile loop 13 times! -
Ankle BreakerI ran the Country Music 1/2 in 2007. Finished in 1:37:59 on 30 mpw. I was 50 then. PR'd at Dayton way back in 1980 and have gotten a whole lot slower over the past few years. Unless a knee problem gets right, I won't be able to tackle that distance anytime soon. In the meantime, it's sprint triathlons.
