So, i'm moving to New Zealand...

  • cbus4life
Fiancee and I just got our work visas today and are good to go.

    Any advice?

We've got most of the stuff figured out, i think, the organizations we're both working for have been a big help, but figure i might as well post it here in case anyone else has some advice/suggestions we've not thought of yet.

I've traveled extensively abroad, and lived overseas in England with the family when i was younger, but never done this as an "adult," and on my own, essentially.

    We'll be in Wellington, btw.

I hear the weather in that area is pretty much great the year round. No extremes either way. Enjoy!

Wellington is a fun city. Christchurch and Auckland are cool places to go too if you get some time. Lots and lots and lots of sheep around if you need to make a couple of wool sweaters

Add me to the list of the jealous. How does one move to New Zealand?
  • cbus4life
    Thanks!!

Had to defer grad school at UNC for 2 years at a minimum, and then might just say screw it entirely if work goes well in New Zealand.

I heard a nickname for Wellington is now "middle earth," which i find rather humorous.

Should be an adventure, to say the least.

Get lucky enough to find a job there. I applied on a whim, and somehow got an interview, and then somehow got hired.

And, the immigration folks there are very kind to Americans. :D

Almost embarrassing how easy it is for us compared to folks from other countries.
  • OneBuckeye
Please post lots of pictures of said adventure.

    They like Americans there
  • cbus4life
Yea, they much prefer us to Australians.

My soon-to-be boss said that if i ever call a New Zealander an Australian, they'll probably feed me to one of the killer whales that can be seen around Wellington from time to time.

New Zealand Uni Percentage / US University Grade
    100% - 80% / A
    79% - 65% / B
    64% - 50% / C
    49% - 40% / D
    39% - 0% / F
    N/A / Pass
    Withdraw / No credit

New Zealand's grading system is crazy, look it up.

Also, can I hide in your luggage? I think being homeless and wandering around Middle Earth would be 50 times better than life currently.

I could teach you a basic and terrible Haka that my wrestling team did one year. That way you can get beat up for destroying their heritage.
