So, i'm moving to New Zealand...
-
cbus4lifeFiancee and I just got our work visas today and are good to go.
Any advice?
We've got most of the stuff figured out, i think, the organizations we're both working for have been a big help, but figure i might as well post it here in case anyone else has some advice/suggestions we've not thought of yet.
I've traveled extensively abroad, and lived overseas in England with the family when i was younger, but never done this as an "adult," and on my own, essentially.
We'll be in Wellington, btw. -
j_crazysay hi to frodo.

AutomatikCongrats! I'm jealous.
-
rugbywrestlerCatch an All Blacks rugby game

Ankle BreakerI hear the weather in that area is pretty much great the year round. No extremes either way. Enjoy!

darbypitcher22Wellington is a fun city. Christchurch and Auckland are cool places to go too if you get some time. Lots and lots and lots of sheep around if you need to make a couple of wool sweaters
-
Scarlet_BuckeyeMajor jeal'. New Zealand is my dream vacation spot. Sighe.
-
Fab4RunnerCongrats and good luck!

WebsurfinbirdAdd me to the list of the jealous. How does one move to New Zealand?
-
cbus4lifeThanks!!
Had to defer grad school at UNC for 2 years at a minimum, and then might just say screw it entirely if work goes well in New Zealand.
I heard a nickname for Wellington is now "middle earth," which i find rather humorous.
Should be an adventure, to say the least. -

Get lucky enough to find a job there. I applied on a whim, and somehow got an interview, and then somehow got hired.Websurfinbird wrote: Add me to the list of the jealous. How does one move to New Zealand?
And, the immigration folks there are very kind to Americans.
Almost embarrassing how easy it is for us compared to folks from other countries. -
OneBuckeyePlease post lots of pictures of said adventure.
-
darbypitcher22They like Americans there
-
cbus4lifeYea, they much prefer us to Australians.
My soon-to-be boss said that if i ever call a New Zealander an Australian, they'll probably feed me to one of the killer whales that can be seen around Wellington from time to time. -

New Zealand's grading system is crazy, look it up.
Also, can I hide in your luggage? I think being homeless and wandering around Middle Earth would be 50 times better than life currently. -
Gblocki guess you ll have to change your name to newzealand4life?

I Wear PantsI could teach you a basic and terrible Haka that my wrestling team did one year. That way you can get beat up for destroying their heritage.
