Dog issue
-
GoChiefsHave a one year old Husky, and Tuesday she started acting sick. She just wasn't her normal self and wasn't acting right. Yesterday, she started vomiting a couple times throughout the day. So, since she was vomiting, we put her in her cage last night when we went to sleep. Woke up this morning, vomit was all over her cage, and she was just laying in it like she didn't even care. Plus, there was a lot of blood in the vomit. She hasn't been eating the last couple of days, but she drinks her water just fine. You can tell she's very weak this morning. Anyone ever had a similar situation with their dog? Just wondering what it could be. And yes, she is on the way to the vet right now.
-
j_crazygood luck. never had to deal with this.
-
pepperpotCould she have been poisoned ? The vet should know what is wrong with some blood work ect. Good luck and keep us posted on her condition.
-
GoChiefsThey are testing her for parvo right now. Reading online..from they symptoms..that very well sounds like it could be it.
-
gorocks99Hopefully the pup pulls through...sounds pretty bad if it is in fact parvo
-
j_crazyparvo = bad news. good luck bro.
-
GoChiefsI keep seeing different things about it..is it curable?
-
coyotes22Which Vet did you go to?
-
Devils AdvocateParvo is a virus and cannot be cured. Survival usually involves IV's to keep the dog hydrated. Usually a 70/30 deal if they can get enough fluids in the dog fast enough.
Good luck buddy, If it is parvo...It's a tough one -
GoChiefsShe had to go to a vet in Green. No damn vet around here would see her. Just got the results back..not good..looks like it is the early stages of parvo. I guess if there is one good thing about it..we caught it in the early stages. This is going to be expensive I guess. And she still might die. How concerned should I be about my other dogs contracting it I wonder?

GoChiefsI seen that on another site...that's if untreated...if caught and treated...the survival rate is 80% as well. According to a couple sites. But who knows. Every site says something different.

How does one get Parvo? -
GoChiefsWife just called...with the stage that its in now..with treatment..the survival rate is 99%. So that's a good thing. And the vet says since she has it now..we won't have to worry about her getting it again? And that it's highly unlikely the other dogs will contract it...but just to keep an eye on them. They are going to keep her for at least over night for treatment. IV's and all that good stuff.

power iI thought dogs got vaccinated for parvo?
-
Gardens35Hope that all turns out well for your puppy!
-
FatHobbitYou might want to think about getting the other dogs vaccinated for parvo. I hope everything works out for you with this one.

It's a virus...like the flu...parvo is contracted through anything outside the vet said. They are actually going to give her the same medication they give to humans for the H1N1...Tamiflu I believe they called it? With her being over 6 months old...she should heal through it quickly she said.coyotes22 wrote: How does one get Parvo? -

All our dogs shots are current and up to date.FatHobbit wrote: You might want to think about getting the other dogs vaccinated for parvo. -
GoChiefsI found this about the vaccinations:
"Parvo vaccinations have long been accepted as a vital precaution in preventing your dog from being infected by the Canine Parvovirus, and yet our research and experience with our own customers highlights three major things that your vet probably isn’t telling you.
Firstly, most vaccines in use today are no longer protecting dogs against the latest 2c strain of Parvo.
This 2c strain, which came to light in the USA during 2006 (although it had been present in Europe and other parts of the world for much longer), is much more aggressive and fast-acting than the older 2a and 2b strains.
We had one customer, in the pacific North West, whose dog first showed Parvo symptoms on a Sunday morning, and by late that same afternoon, it was dead.
We are finding more and more customers who have fully-vaccinated adult dogs, as well as puppies, that are getting Parvo and, if not treated, dying from it.
Until recently, only Intervet manufactured vaccines that had been 100% challenge-tested against the 2c strain, but we’ve now had customers whose dogs had been vaccinated using their products, and yet still developed Parvo.
So, don’t assume that because your dog (whether old or young) has been vaccinated, he’s safe and will be immune." -
coyotes22Well, I hope it all turns out good. Prayers from Stark County.
Seriously, I hope she gets well soon. -

$3,000 freakin' dollars! She better get well soon! :@coyotes22 wrote: Seriously, I hope she gets well soon. -
j_crazyI love my dog like a son. But if the vet bills get up to 1200, i start considering the "shot". I'd definitely have her put down. I'd probably not buy a dog to replace her for a long time (because I'd feel like shit). but my god, 3 grand for a puppy, i'm sorry, no thanks.
