gerb131I have been under a few whales and got nothing except for a bruised ego.
-
GoChiefsDefinitely not saying the whale didn't have a part in it..as I believe it did. But the whole drowning thing isn't that far fetched. She could have slipped and hit her head on the edge rendering her unconscious maybe? Possibly that's why she 'drowned'?

This is what I was thinking, which scares the hell out of me that GoChiefs mentioned it!GoChiefs wrote: Definitely not saying the whale didn't have a part in it..as I believe it did. If the whale were a pit bull, they'd put a bullet through it's head. -
GoChiefs:@ Don't forget..I know which path you occasionally take to a certain posters home in a certain nearby town every now and then. Don't think with that information..I can't find you!

Thunder70That's what you get for swimming with the world's largest predator...

Gardens35If I heard the news report correctly.....this is the third incident of death involving a human and this same whale since 1992.

Fab1bhttp://www.news4jax.com/news/22660616/detail.htmlA SeaWorld killer whale seized a trainer in its jaws Wednesday and thrashed the woman around underwater, killing her in front of a horrified audience. It marked the third time the animal had been involved in a human death.
Distraught audience members were hustled out of the stadium immediately, and the park was closed.
Trainer Dawn Brancheau, 40, was one of the park's most experienced. It was not clear if she drowned or died from the thrashing.
A former contractor with SeaWorld told the Orlando Sentinel that the whale, Tilikum, is typically kept isolated from SeaWorld's other killer whales and that trainers were not allowed to get in the water with him because of his violent history. -
GoChiefs
So..it's a 'serial killer whale'.Gardens35 wrote: If I heard the news report correctly.....this is the third incident of death involving a human and this same whale since 1992.

Mr. 300So sad.
-
j_crazyits a shame but imagine a horrified little kid who saw it. traumatized.
-
SpeedofsandTilikum is a nearly 30-year-old, 12,300-pound bull orca.
R.I.P Dawn Brancheau.

this link has a witness statement. sounds awful, she said Dawn was rubbing Tilikum's belly, then Tilikum took off around the water real fast, came back around, jumped up and grabbed the trainer. About 50 witnesses, including a bunch of little kids saw it.

I was right by Seaworld today an hour after it happened. Dropped my daughter at Orlando airport then went to I-drive to the outlet stores and Bass Pro Shop.
In a wierd related story, the rare Northern Atlantic Right Whales have been seen off the beach since Sunday playing around, heading back to Nova Scotia. They were at New Smyrna Beach, then Daytona yesterday, probably will be by St. Augustine and Jacksonville the next few days. Those things are HUGE. -
Fab1bAlright everyone don't jump all over me for this but...
I wonder if there is a video of this?? -
THE4RINGZJust saw the story on the local news. Sad for sure but I am surprised this doesn't happen more often. Don't fuck with Mother Nature
-
ytownfootballI was thinkin' it too Fab don't feel bad.
I'll check the tube. -
Fab1bLet me know if you find one
-
ytownfootballThey have spokesmen in front of microphones and a shot of the whale chillin' in the tank...that's it
not worth a look imo. -
Fab1bi think at some point a video will come out
-
ytownfootballSomebody had a camera there, I don't doubt it for a minute.
It would certainly be in poor taste but I've come to expect that these days. -
Speedofsandhere is a video of Dawn in 2000

on the 3 links I posted, there are more related news reports on those pages. -
JTizzleI think this whale is being framed!
-
Laley23Well, Dawn Brancheau is the woman I was speculating on before. She is from Toledo. Very sad.

cbus4lifeDon't always agree with PETA, but i hope they use this tragedy to spur some change in regards to keeping large mammals like this in tanks that are essentially a bath tub to them.
These things could be averted by...not keeping monster animals and treating them like circus animals.
