As RR1 said, there are always 2 sides to every story. I've read all 22 comments posted on that article on the newspaper's web site, and there were many, many people backing the defendent (many more than the plaintiff had), as well as a recent grad with specific examples of 100% for-sure relationships between the two (according to the poster)... That's just what is being posted by those people on the newspaper web site. Here are some of the posts from the web site: (these are not my opinions or my words, strictly copying from the Daily Record's web site here: http://www.the-daily-record.com/news/article/4775285)

    This is a joke.
It all stems from one mans short comings...one mans inabiliities to fill the shoes of a coaching legend!!! its a far reach and it is Quite ridculous that the race card is being played. I remember a time that the argument on the other forum was dealing with the Community Homecoming Celebration and the decades old tradition of a stuffed dummy hanging in the town square with the opposing teams jersey....of which was torn down and thrown into the bonfire......The party that filed the complaint stated the event was a racially motivated event and had the tradition terminated....
just one example of a previous "race-card"......if i remember correctly...said party also fired up posts during school ours as well.....

Everybody read this stuff on the forum at the time and no one thought it was defamatory. It was just a different opinion than the current coaches. Everyone here knows this poster and he is thought well of.

He is very well respected on this message board, the other site and in the high schoool and throughout the community!!!

He has always seemed like an asshole to me. But we all have our own opinions.

That's the point...JJ had a reputation for not letting harsh criticism of coaches stand....and especially in this situation. It got to the point that you couldnt even hint at constructive criticism without being accused of some alterior motive.

Orrville has a levy coming up in May I believe....it's things like this that really turn-off the voters.

It will be funny when the Attorney asks in court:

Do you have to pay a fee for the privilege of posting on or reading the forums of jjhuddle?

When I was in HS our football coach/AD tried to kick me off the cheerleading squad for something I said about him on JJ. It didn't work.

Hardly. Every small town/school district is full of gossip and rumors and things of this nature.

I have been in this type of legal crap by greedy individual, worthless lawyer and meaningless court cases, from my experiences $125,000 is an amount of money low enough to get and high enough to have negotiation but not really big enough to say I defend my values, morals and integrity …I just want to take the money a run.

In short……coach is going to be shit canned and is looking for big pay-out before leaving.

I would look deeper into the coach financial for the truth….. ..follow the money trail
  • RedRider1
coach is no longer a coach, but still a teacher...actually he's an assitant at Canton Timken now...but a teacher at Orrville.

I'm guessing he'll no longer be a teacher at Orrville after this is settled (any settlement will probably include a resignation) and is looking for something on the way out.

Short's record in the same span of time was not much different then Smith's. How many coaches do you really believe can live up to Smith"s record. That does not happen every day.

The "Community Homecoming Celebration" had the appearance of a public lynching; hang a man in the town square, beat and decapitate the corpse, then throw into a fire! For all the photos of Orrville sports that were and are posted on the forum, it's ironic that none of those "homecoming celebration" photos were ever posted.

That was okay to do, but cheerleaders can't perform somersaults during basketball games because it is taunting!

The city is attempting to gain the interest of different industries and businesses to move into Orrville. Smuckers is also expanding it's facilities for relocated employees.

Forward thinking people won't appreciate such degrading behavior anymore!
