    you'd lose that bet.
Justin, are you basing that on your averages? I still think you could do it:).

Nah, I hit 90 MPH fastballs before (Scott Moviel), and I can tell you that hitting an 80 MPH curveball or a 92 MPH cutter are much more difficult.

And if you ask those guys, and it's been asked, they'll tell you that they just blend out the crowd noise, and it helps that those fans are not right on top of them.

In golf, if not everyone is cheering, you're going to hear every specific comment said during a swing, and it doesn't help that the ropes place you only about 10 feet from the swinging golfer, at least on the tee box.

Some golfers heckling doesn't affect. Like I said, heckling doesn't affect me, my dad, when I was growing up, would talk in my backswing all the time just to help make me impervious to it. But for the majority, it makes a huge difference.

If heckling or cheering MADE a difference in any of those sports, it wouldn't be tolerated either.

There's no question that hitting a 90+ fastball is extremely tough, but you're just looking to make contact and hit it. Ur not trying to hit it on a 15 yard wide piece of grass around trees and over other hazards.
That doesn't have anything to do with it. It's a stationary ball, it's not moving. It is far easy to play golf than hit a 90+ mph fastball, yet Tiger Woods, the best in the game, acts like a baby if a photographer dares to take a picture. That's ridiculous.

I'll lay a 10x10 blanket 200 yards out and if anyone on here can lay 5/10 balls on the blanket, I'll gladly give them a grand.

    It's not easier tk.

Having done both they have equal but different difficulties.
  • lhslep134
Zwick, I might have to take you up on that, although I doubt I could do it 5 times, maybe 2 or 3.

Shit... you get anyone dropping two at 2 bills I'd be amazed.

I've tried it and the BEST I've done is two. It's harder than you'd think.

Ya... it won't happen. If any can do it, they better sign up for Q school.

We did a "million dollar hole in one tounament" a few years ago at 150 onto a green, tons of participants, very few within ten feet.

    200 is a lot tougher.
  • lhslep134
Yeah, that's why I'm thinking MAYBE 2 or 3, tons of emphasis on the maybe. Depends a lot on wind, how I'm feeling that day too.

I imagine how hard it is... during senior year in hs our coach dropped us off on a 190 yard par 3, drew a probably 25 foot in diameter circle and gave us each 20 balls to see who could get the most in the circle, with the winner getting a free dinner.

I ended up with 4, but probably landed about 8 in the circle, with some rolling too far and the others spinning back out of it.

The next closest was 2, and that was by one of the kids who graduated the year before who just wanted to practice with us.

I will admit my iron game was a lot better in hs though, while I'd say now it's my short game that saves me strokes from bad situations my iron shots create, so really, if you threw down a 10x10 circle RIGHT NOW I'd be lucky to get 2.

Well my biggest problem is I'm most comfortable playing a draw, and getting a 5 iron to stop on a dime with a draw isn't very easy. So I'd either have to play a fade (which I'm not as accurate with) or land it short and run on. I'll be the first to admit that 200 yards out, I'm just looking to be putting and not expecting to be inside 15 ft.

Why don't you just make it a hole in one? Show me a pro who can hit 5/10 into the hole and I'll give you a grand. I said an average golfer.
How many people tee off trying to hit a 10x10 area in the fairway? Add 100 yards to that and your pro golfers couldn't do it either.

Keep it reasonable. Are you saying you couldn't hit 5/10 balls in the fairway if people were heckilng you? I bet you could if the bet was opposite.

5/10 @ 200 would be pushing it for pros too just in case you were wondering.

The average person couldnt hit 5/10 fairways with a driver.

If golf galleries did cheer loudly all the time... the players could handle the noise.

The difference is... the etiquette/culture of the game discourages this type of behavior. One is supposed to be quiet and still once a competitor has begun their pre-shot routine... and during a swing. If a person yells/interrupts the competitor during this process, it simply lacks class/respect for the game... and everyone competing in the tournament.

However, if they did allow continued noise and cheering (as long as it was a somewhat consistent noise... like a baseball/football/basketball game,) I am confident the players would handle it much better than you think. Just like they do in other sports. (JMO) It is so hard to compare apples to oranges.

    You're an idiot.

    Zwick,

No chance in hell I'd make a 6 iron (that's my 200 club) stick from 200 unless it was wet out. My spin control is not nearly on par with the rest of the skills in my bag (driving accuracy/distance and short game).

I also play a draw, and rarely do I ever have to force myself to hit a fade, so if I had to in order to land it on a 10x10 blanket, I'd put 0 on it.
  • ohiotiger33
I am 100 percent with no heckling. Anyone that doesn't get that, doesn't play or is very stupid.

Making the argument against other sports is stupid; it isn't other sports. The margin of error in sports like these are too great to be affected by an involuntary reaction to a sudden stimulus. The same reason everyone is quiet during pool, bowling, curling, etc.

Pulled up my best and worst rounds last year (saved on golflogix app on my blackberry)

    Best. 67

    10/14 fairways hit 71.4%. 3 missed left 21.4%, 1 missed right 7.1%.
    15/18 greens hit 83.3%
    6 one putts
    12 two putts
    0 three putts
    30 total putts.
    1.67 average

    Worst. 78

    8/14 fairways hit 57.1 %. 6 missed left 42.9%. 0 missed right.
    12/18 greens hit 66.7%
    2 one putts
    14 two putts
    2 three putts
    36 total putts.
    2.00 average

So I'm hitting about half of the fairways when I'm shooting a 78. I can guarantee your average golfer isn't shooting 78's.

I have a hard enough time hitting half the fairways when it's silent.

I like how golf is a gentlemans game, but the most recognizable golfer in the world is anything but a gentleman. Shouldn't Tiger have more respect for the game than throwing clubs and dropping f-bombs??
  • hang_loose
Well, I'd love to see Tiger in a tournament where heckling was allowed. And I think he would place in the top ten once he learns how to tune out the noise.

It will never happen so heckle when you can.
