Canal Park, Home of the Akron Aeros

    Thurmon Munson Stadium: Canton, Ohio

Obviously the same guy built Munson Stadium and the old Clipper Stadium? To me, that's what a baseball field is supposed to look like. Much like the Lucas Co. Rec center...old home of the Mudhens. Caught a couple HS games there last year....very nice old ballpark. Much more character than the new places....but not as profitable, which explains why they are going away.

Here is a pic of Don Edwards park in Newark. Not the best but I had a lot of good memories there growing up. This is were they held the 18 and under babe ruth world series.

When I was in high school, I went to Louisville and played at Ballard High School and Pleasant Ridge Park...They were ranked like #1 and #6 in the nation at the time (2001)...They had really nice fields

Doesn't do the field much justice, but it's a super nice field. When I was there, we weren't allowed to walk on the infield grass...it was intense

And of course this field is undergoing a turf reconstruction so there are no good pics of it haha

I would have made it a point to walk on that grass any chance I got because thats the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Zanesville's middle school teams used to play at Gant along with Rosecrans.
Zanesville High School now has turf, so all of the Zanesville teams play there.
Before the turf was finished on the field, Rosecrans and Zanesville agreed to a deal allowing Rosecrans to use the field for football.

Munson's surface is still really well maintained, at least it was in '08 when I was there. played at Don Edwards two summers ago and thought it was pretty nice, could be nicer with some upgrades to the dugout areas and the bullpen areas but its still good

Played at Munson in '91 and the actual playing surface was amazing. Up unti then the best playing surface was OSU's field.

The stadium was kinda neat but it was a dump, really it was. Went back a few years ago and the field seemed to be still fine but with no other regular tennant everything else went to hell.

Anyone said the Dayton Dragons field? Wouldnt classify as a place no one knows about tho.....been sold out since day one. I went to one of the first 10 games there...the LF concession/restrooms werent even done yet at that point..they played their whole first month almost on on the road.

    soooo, sooo many nice ballparks.

I have played there many times and think it's a POS. My favorite around central ohio would probably be beaver.
Have you played there in the last 5 years since the no longer have football. The baseball field is in the best shape its ever been. My brother is the grounds keeper so thanks for calling it a POS.

the surrounding structure at Munson still hasnt been maintained very well, but I love it

No one plays there anymore do they? We have bad memories there...three trips to state....and only 2 runners up to show for it.

In SW ohio the dayton dragons have been allowing HS teams to play on their field. Pretty sweet actually. Kinda jealous at the new ballyards these kids get to play on. I know we ve had games on WSU's field, scheduled for the Flyers field but got banged two years in a row.....Dragons field.....must be nice!

we played Mount Union there because their field was under water when we were scheduled to play there. I believe a Stark County summer team plays there but I don't think anybody on a regular basis anymore, from what I hear its pretty sporadic. I've been lucky enough to play at places like Univ. of Cincinnati, the Pipe Yard in Lorain, and Munson

Thanks Darby this is my field and it's not a POS as someone said. I have over six years of hard work and dedication into this field. When I started yes it was a POS but I seen the potential the place really has. The neighbors love me because of the way I have made the place look. They have told me it has never looked better in it's entire history. The kids that play at Gant really enjoy it and feel like they are playing on a big league field.
I do love that place but if they keep taking money from me I don't know how much longer I will be working there. I love my job and really do take pride in my work which you would think encourage them to keep me and pay me decent. I will tell ya that no one will probably ever care as much as I do or be able to keep it in as good of shape as I have done.

That's not the best pic I have either need to upload a few more.

Oh yeah about the lighting we tried to get new lights over the last few years but council doesn't think it is a good idea with the economy the way it is. New lights would be nice though along with a new paint job. Then the stadium would look like a minor league park.

They used to play Football until they went to ZHS like Bluedevil said. It was a smack in the face for me basically I got hurt the most. I lost two months of salary because they left and that was our income for the last two months of the season. I even went the extra mile and started painting the individual yard marks throughout the field. It was just marked every five yards before and had that old school look to it.
