  Strawman. That's what it's called when someone argues a point no one has made. The person putting forth such dishonest arguments are usally horribly lacking in language skills and cognitive ability. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule. Your post is not one of them.

  The one we patronize and support is a mile or so from our house. On any given day, at least half of the dogs available for adoption are pit bulls or pit bull mixes (blame Michael Vick if you want), pit bulls can be great dogs but they aren't the right dogs for every family. the other half is usually some sort of hound/lab/pointer mix. I go to the shelter 4-5 times a month and I've NEVER seen a dog under 15 lbs up for adoption. It doesn't work that way. You aren't finding a cocker spaniel or irish setter at these places. Adopting a dog from a shelter takes work, it isn't something to be taken lightly.

  It's sad because PETA actually does a lot of good, but it never makes the news. The only thing that makes the news are these ridiculous actions taken by the fringe members of the group.
  
  I don't support these ridiculous measures, but extremism is needed when you are trying to defend something. You can't go about it half ass and expect to accomplish anything.

  I'd be curous to see where this organization has done any good. From what I tell, they are as incompetent as they are immoral.

  Yes, I've been to animal shelters on rare occassion. I try to avoid visiting. The only times I've visited one was to adopt an animal. I've donated money at times. Four of the five animals I've owned have come from shelter(the other was a stray who just showed up). Ive got three of the best dogs you could ever imagine from the shelter and many of my friends done the same.
  
  The only thing i've said about this topic is that I like the idea of the protest because more than likely it opened someone's eyes to shelter dogs and cats and that the message wasn't about breeders themselves,just the idea that breeders reduce shelter dogs chances of adoption. I still support those ideas......

  It's more small groups of their membership will do some good things rather than the organization as a whole. They have bands of members who work with a lot of mistreated farm dogs and horses. In cities like Columbus where we do not have an ASPCA, just local humane society's who often act like they can't be bothered, these are the only people willing to go to drastic measures to help.

  if people all start buying from shelters, then what happens to all the purebreds? do they get put to sleep? would be a shame, if one of them had to be put to sleep wouldnt you think it should be the mutt? JMO

  Had two purebreds (dumber than a bag of hammers) and a mutt (who's just awesome).
  
  Here's where PETA goes wrong. The assumption is that there are too many animals, dogs in particular, being euthanized at shelters because they're there too long and no one adopts them. Their rage then focuses toward.....breeders?
  
  Look, the real problem comes from pet stores selling dogs that come from points unknown with absolutely no oversight from people who have a vested interest in making sure that they're putting good quality pups out there instead of a walking, drooling sack of money. At the end of the day, the biggest part of the dog population problem stems from puppy mills.
  
  How to address this? Get a few states on board to both realize that this is a problem and then pass laws that state that retail stores are not allowed to sell cats or dogs. I know Petsmart hosts Humane Society adoptions for a span of time and they tend to cycle through on a regular basis, but something like Petland....don't get me started.
