We are the World (new version)

  • Scarlet_Buckeye
So what are everyone's thoughts on the new version of "We are the World" which just made it's debut?

  • september63
Much, Much worse than the original!!
  • justincredible
I thought it was good. My only question, why is Vince Vaughn in the background group?
  • cmhs_pride
    ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How come we dont have something like this, for all the people who lose their homes every year, HERE IN OUR OWN country, due to natural disasters?

Im tired of helping other countrys, lets worry about our own people first!!

Then we could make the song..."We are the United States"

It's a good thing that this hasn't been covered on here before at all.

for me, personally, it'd be a sad day if I became tired of helping others, regardless of where they were from. (Not to mention, if YOU'RE doing something to help people here, then hey...you're doing your part, in what you feel passionate about.)

That said, this song is hilariously bad, IMO. But, that's me as a music purist. The original was so important, and so powerful.

(Not to mention, and I hate to ramble, but there was a song similar to this after 9/11. It was an original, though, I think?)
  • skank
It wasn't too bad....until they started talking....er, I mean Rapping. Relax Laker fans, I said RAPPING.
  • se-alum
It was going good until.....Wyclef started doing god knows what and Lil Wayne & T-Pain auto-tuning.
  • Blitzkrieg
This version is awful. On another website I post, this topic was a poll. And about 85% says it sucks worst, 10% says its equal to the original, and a mere 5% like it.
  • Upper90
I think I'd think it was better, maybe, if I had never heard the original.

My niece likes it, but she's far younger than I, and isn't too familiar with the original.
  • GoPens
It sucks. Want to ruin a song?? Put rap in it or whatever the hell that noise-making was.
  • Gardens35
    IMO, it isn't very good.

I must have weird taste in music because I didn't think it was that bad. I am apparently in the vast minority.

Well when you ask a population with a lot of Baby Boomers whether something made today was better or worse than something from 25 years ago, they say 25 years ago based on principle, regardless of what it is.

I don't think it was really any better or worse. It was just kind of there. Autotune wasn't exactly necessary.

I'm not a twitter fan of Bill Simmons (The Sports Guy) on ESPN, but apparently he twitted that he thought it was a SNL short. I laughed.

When I watched, I probably laughed out loud 4 or 5 times. This was unintentional comedy at its best. My favorite part was seeing the Big Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) in the choir. This was a trainwreck, regardless of the noble intentions.

If you go to the "We are the World" wikipedia page there is a listing of the members of the groups that respectively sang the original and the new versions. You don't have to be a baby boomer (and I'm not) to recognize that the orginal group is full of hall of fame acts, and that the new group contains a bunch of "who the hell are these people" acts. I still have no idea who the hell the 12 year old singing the beginning of the new song is.

There were at LEAST 30-35 more people on this one, which made it a bit ridiculous, IMO.

That's just a bit of overkill.

Exactly. Also, the first appealed to a much broader audience. On one end of the spectrum you had Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson and on the other you had Michael Jackson. They had Hall of Famers like Smokey Robinson and Waylon Jennings singing in the chorus.

    started out a little stiff....

no reason there should be auto tuning with all those there who can sing, but i didnt mind a few secs of lil wayne and kanyes verse wasnt bad.
  • UANyg
this was horrendous. auto-tune plus rap? are you kidding me? jamie foxx doing a stupid ray charles impression? absolutely awful. oh and in this new line up, vince vaughan = dan akroyd. super out of place comedian
  • baseballstud24
Yea I didn't mind it until the gangsta rap.
