BigAppleBuckeyeReally sad story, only 21 ... wow. RIP, at least he died doing something that he loved, not that it's any consolation ...

LJstupid fucking track design.
-
End of LineSad story, he was on a practice run at the time..........RIP.
-
ts1227If this track is that bad, we may see some nasty things we don't need to see if they show any luge live this year.
-
gerb13195mph speeds is insane and TS is right that course could be that nasty for those lugers. That skier took a nasty fall in practice the other day too.
-
BigAppleBuckeyeHoly shit, here is the video ... scary: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/12/nodar-kumaritashvili-cras_n_460474.html
-
vball10sethow fast is too fast? tragic, but bound to happen...

LJ
this video is where my comment came from. There is no reason for a track to be built that fast with that kind of hazard. Those beams should not be there.BigAppleBuckeye wrote: Holy shit, here is the video ... scary: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/12/nodar-kumaritashvili-cras_n_460474.html -
gorocks99Holy crap. What a dumbass design.
-
iclfan2Wow that video is sick.

Drums of WarOn "The Luge,"
Robin Williams: "What drunken, German gynecologist invented this sport? What guy went, "I want to dress like a sperm, shove an ice skate up my ass, and ride balls first down an ice chute. Ya. That would be fun." ?
I know it is a sad event, but I immediately thought of this. If it were my sport, I would think the quote is funny. -
BigAppleBuckeyeI am hardly a luge expert, but that track looks suicidal! So sad.
-
4cards...hope his family wasn't there watching.
-
vball10setCanadian architecture--'nuff said
-
thedynasty1998Wow that's a scary track. Does it make me a bad person that I'm now really looking forward to this event now? I don't want anything tragic to happen obviously, but with speeds that fast it will probably be an adrenaline rush just watching that.

I would rather them just not have it than have a bunch of people get horribly injured and/or die.thedynasty1998 wrote: Wow that's a scary track. NateNot cool.
-
tk421Definitely not safe, obviously. I don't know how any of the other lugers could go down that track knowing someone died right there.
-
bartsimpsonWow, steel posts a foot away from a guy coming out of a curve going 95 mph on a sled. Couldn't have someone seen the potential for something bad to happen when they were designing that thing.
-
NateI bet they put something up ASAP..
-
tk421
You'd think they would have at least put a little padding on the things. It might not have helped all that much though as fast as they are going.bartsimpson wrote: Wow, steel posts a foot away from a guy coming out of a curve going 95 mph on a sled. september63Those posts wont be there by the weekend. I dont know how, but they will be gone. Keep your eyes on it. At minimum, pad the freekin posts. They werent even padded.
-
j_crazyvideo has already been axed by IOC. wish I could see the vid, but does anyone know where to find pictures of the track just so i can see how heinous this design is?
-
ytownfootballAt the very least they need moved to the other side where momentum won't be an issue. That may be the most piss poor design flaw I've ever seen.
