Auto Rental

What's the best site to use when renting a auto while on vacation? Were traveling this summer and want the best deal possible.

I recently booked a rental car for our vacation. I went to each individual website of the major rental car companies. For my trip, Enterprise was the best price.

I'll tell you who not to use, Advantage Rent-a-car. When I went to LA for the USC-OSU game, they were reasonably priced, but tried to charge me over $100 extra for turning the car in EARLY. Like 10 hours early. Fortunately, I was able to get them to not charge it once I contacted corporate. It was a hassle though, so don't use them.

Priceline.com. You put your bid in for whatever you want to pay for a car. I got a bid for a mid-sized car for the Sugar Bowl trip for $13/day from Avis. Much cheaper than going through the company themselves.

When renting you need to consider the miles you will be driving. You can get a great rate but the mileage may be limited. Be sure to ask because this can add up quick.

Yeah, I got a brand new Mustang for about 15 bucks a day from priceline. The only catch is that they(the rental car company) do put a hold on your credit card for a certain amount of money.

    over the years... no difference.

Warning - Priceline is essentially "standby" status" - if there's any trouble, Priceline customers are the first one booted.

Bargain hard at the check-in counter - on the last trip to Seattle with the wife, I talked Avis into an Escalante at the "intermediate" price plus 10% - and got a one-way fee to Portland dropped.

Did GM and Hyndai merge to make a 3 car hybrid of an Escalade, Elantra, and Santa Fe?

I use expedia because I get double points if I use them and my credit card. I always prefer AVIS or Enterprise, but when price is considered, I usually end up with Budget. No complaints.

IMO- Enterprise usually has some really cheap (cheap as in poorly made) cars. I went not even the least expensive rental from Enterprise a few years back and I got some Kia that pulled to the right.....car was awful.
