  When I was in Buffalo over Christmas I saw this giant monster truck tonka truck thing coming down the road with snow just flying up all around it. I ask my gf "what the hell is that thing?" She goes "um it's a snow plow"
  
  The thing was not one of those wimpy 2 ton single blade dump trucks we see here. It was like a 5 ton heavy construction tonka truck with 44" off road tires and 2 12' blades

  I've spent the last six years of my life living in Cleveland. The "snow belt" is a mother... However, with that being said, I'm not sure I would trade it for anything. Sure it gets cold and nippy, but I love the change in weather. I love how I can snowboard during the winter and sail during the summer. The city is absolutely one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen when it is all covered in white snow (unfortunately it only lasts a night or so before the cars and commotion turn the edges brown).

  I've seen them dump truck full after truck full into the niagara river. When the temp doesn't get above freezing for an extended period they can't keep plowing it to the side. The amount is so large they have to move it because it won't melt.

  Youngstown was bad too with the clouds...it was only "sunny" like 35 days of the year there, according to their TV station.

  Based on my experience living in Columbus ... it wasn't the snow that made the winters bad, it was the fact that the sun basically disappeared in November and didn't come out again until March. It was always gray! Made those early morning OSU classes REALLY hard to get to ...

  the constant cloudiness is part of the reason that ball bearing plant (used to be called Delphi) was built in Sandusky during WWII.......harder to bomb
