Buying/downloading new GPS maps questions?
-
Fab1bI have a TomTom, love it and don't want to debate which brand is better, however mine is about 3-4yrs old now and some of the newer places, rds, etc...are not of course on the map that was preloaded back then.
Anyone buy new maps? Any suggestions, prices? i was looking at tomtom.com looks like a basic USA map is $69.99, know of any better deals out there? -
Fab1bTTT one time before it drops off first page. Anyone, no help here??

Crew LoveHonestly, just buy a new TomTom. I just purchased the TomTom 140-S for roughly $90 last month. That's only $20 more than the map update you're looking at, and is a unit that just was released in late-March 2009, as opposed to your 3-4 year old GPS.
The 140-S is currently available for $99.99 on Amazon, with free shipping. The usual list price is $199.95:

Fab1bI didn't even think of that, that is the route I may go unless someone knows how to get maps for like 20 - 30 bucks or something like that.

wes_mantoothI have always heard the same thing....just buy a new one.

Alternatively, both NewEgg and Amazon offer the TomTom ONE 130 right now for $79.99, with free shipping, which would only be $10 more than a map update. Personally, I'd still recommend springing the extra $20 for the 140-S, though, as it has both spoken street names and advanced lane guidance.

Did you act on this...? I see Amazon already jacked their price back up to $120.73.Crew Love wrote: Honestly, just buy a new TomTom. I just purchased the TomTom 140-S for roughly $90 last month. If you didn't, I see that NewEgg has a "Shell Shocker" deal on the TomTom One 130-S, which is a comparable unit with the spoken street names for $89.99 with free shipping.

FatHobbitDoes a new GPS come with the latest map? I always felt like mine was a little behind the times when I'm on a new road. (I just wonder if they load them with the latest map when they sell them, and also how long they've been sitting around the store/warehouse.)

TomTom units come with a "30-Day Latest Map Guarantee", if a newer map is released within 30 days from when a user first uses their device, they’re entitled to a free map download. One can check as often as desired during the 30 day period to see if a newer map has been released.FatHobbit wrote: Does a new GPS come with the latest map? In addition, many TomToms come with MapShare technology. MapShare allows users to eliminate inaccuracies of built-in maps on-demand, instead of relying on map updates. Users can edit speed limits, points of interest, etc, report directly to TomTom and choose to share changes with other TomTom users. TomTom verifies all changes made by others and lets users import them to their unit. -
Crew Loveto make sure Fab sees this.
