On The Topic Of Peanut Butter And Jelly.
-
Upper90I'm craving PB&J, which is something I hardly ever eat, maybe 3 times a year. I'm going to go pick up the supplies (I own bread, and maybe some old PB, but I want some fresh PB, for sure)...and I think I'm partial to Strawberry preserves.
You?
I also go for a raspberry jam, if I can find a small jar of it.
So, are you crunchy or smooth PB?
What kind of jelly?
what kind of bread?
I feel like White bread falls apart too easily if you're using crunchy PB. For my job I made 200 PB&J sandwiches yesterday (explaining the craving), and the Whites were falling apart all over the place (no racist intent.) -
justincredibleNatural peanut butter and any sort of fruit preserves.
-
sejIdeally, I go for homemade strawberry jam. In lieu of that, it's a toss up between grape or strawberry. I vary on the PB, too, but always go for white bread.
-
UA5straightin2008strawberry or grape jelly, creamy peanut butter, definitely white bread
-
Fab1bWas craving PB&J the other night, and I also hardly ever eat it. Got some creamy PB and some Strawberry Perserves and murdered a sammich!!
-
darbypitcher22PBJ is the shit

Upper90Does a brand of PB make a difference to you guys?
I suppose because I don't eat a ton of PB, it just all tastes the same. But, I know people that insists that different brands taste way different than other brands.
I'm just going to cop whatever is cheapest tonight. I've got some Peter Pan in the cupboard, but it's at LEAST a year old. -
september63Crunchy PB, Smuckers Grape Jelly and Homepride wheat bread!!
-
MulvaCrunchy and grape for me. It's a late night favorite of mine if I come home intoxicated and don't feel like operating the oven or comprehending instructions.
-
september63JIF!!
-
UA5straightin2008i like jif, because its basically what i was raised on, but there is this stuff called "goober" i beleive, and it is a mixed of PB and J in one jar...it probably tops everything, I LOVE IT
-
iclfan2Crunchy PB preferred, usually use white/wheat bread, and like strawberry the most, grape is ok, and apricot every once in awhile.
-
bigkahunaI eat a lot of pb. my wife is obsessed with it. I dont think there is a difference in taste unless you get the $1 from the dollar store. Most pb at Kroger and other grocery stores taste the same to me. Now as far as jelly goes. I like it to have some seeds in it regardless of what it is. I just like pbj

StiffmanI was thinking you were watching Food Tech on the History Channel. They showed the making of PB, Jelly and juicy juice. Interestingly, they showed the making of the juice box at a plant in Denton, TX. It was one of my first major tax audits to complete. It was interesting to do as well because the tour of the plant was kind of neat.
Anyway, I'm eating a salad tonight..........blah! -

killdeergotta be Jif PB...also has to be fresh...
the subject of freshness and PB gets overlooked a lot...I'm not proud of this skill, but I can tell the age of PB by smell...it does get gradually more rancid the longer it sits on the shelf. For that reason, even though I eat PB somewhat regularly, I usually buy the smallest jar so the freshness expires about the same time the jar gets empty. Again, i admit it is an idiosyncracy; but there you go.
the bread has to be somewhat dense...one of those high-end Brownberry-type whole grain breads; white or oat, works great.
try it with some plum jelly...for some reason that is the fave at our house with PB. or honey.
one more sammich to try...a grilled cheese with just the thinnest smear of peanut butter is real nice.
