They're just showing a recap of everything that happened right now.

Holy crap that blew my mind. The man in black is the smoke monster, didn't see that coming. The beginning had me so confused when they showed Jack on the plane and then they woke back up on the island. I'm guessing that was a flashforward of some sort of what would have happened had the plane never crashed in the first place. I am willing to bet that when Sayid woke up, it was Jacob now in his body, just like the man in black is in Locke's body. Could be wrong but it sounded plausible.

Very good way to start off the season!

I thought that flashforwards and flashbacks were not going to be used anyone.

^^^^ It seems as though they are two alternate realities. Not a flash forward, but two different yet real realities. thats my opinion, but it would make sense considering the producers had said that this season would feature a new story telling plot tool, similar to the flashbacks and time traveling and such. I like your idea about jacob using sayids body, though, that certainly seems plausible.

^^ I think it is a parallel universe.

    I agree.

I think the "flashforwards" are simply them if they never crashed. As Julliete (tried) to tell Sawyer...."It worked". I think they are simply alive on the island as well as, as if the plane never crashed.

For anyone that has seen Deja Vu with Denzel, you get what I am trying to say.

Yea, for some strange reason, the scene with Doc Brown explaining to Marty McFly in the shop about alternate timelines in Back to the Future II popped in my mind.

Great episode though and there are so many complex story lines to follow. Going to be great.

Ok. When Sayid wakes up and says, "what happened" his accent is completely different. Go watch it.

^^^If that's true I didn't even catch that and I am usually good at catching things. Good catch man.

I like the idea of JAcob taking over Sayid's body, but why would the Others say if SAyid dies they are in trouble if, in fact, Jacob was to assume his body? It seems that the Others wanted Jacob to be around. I think maybe the bad guy could assume dead peoples bodies, so maybe Sayid's too? I don't know, the show is too complex to figure out and I gave up a while ago.

Eh my mind is intact, thought it was good, but nothing too earth shattering. Really looking forward to this season.

Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed with Sawyer these past few seasons? Just seemed they dialed him back quite a bit and turned him into a bit of a bitch.

I think that when Ben was brought to the Temple as a kid to be "saved" in that pool of holy water or whatever (but wouldn't ever be the same), he fit the "loophole" that Jacob and the Man in Black spoke about in order to kill each other...so that's why the Man in Black had Ben kill Jacob. That's why Jacob had Hurley take Sayid to the Temple to be saved...so he could fit the "loophole" and kill the Man in Black. They have rules and now Sayid fits these rules. In one of the seasons they had a Sayid centric episode in which they focuse on him being a natural born killer, now he's ready to fullfil his destiny. Just my theory. I think the whole show is a huge chess game between Jacob and this other guy, and all of these characters are just the pieces.

    Great theory.

I have thought the characters to be pawns for awhile, I just incorrectly thought Ben and Charles were the kings, not Jacob and Esau.

When the man in black was introduced, I could not help but think of the whole Jacob and Esau story. If you recall, Jacob and Esau were twins, with Esau being slightly older. This gave Esau the right to his father's inheritance, however, Jacob bought it from him and was able to deceive his elderly father Isaac that he was Esau. Throughout the bible Jacob is depicted as Israel and one of the father's of the Jewish people (which could explain why the Island natives are so devoted to him.) However, as his biblical namesake, he is capable of deceit. The struggle with Lost's Jacob and the Man in Black could be summed up as a battle over who has the right to claim the island.

    Just a thought ...

What was up with "Locke" saying something to Richard about him being out of chains?? The man in black didnt take over Lockes body as you could tell by lockes dead body being on the island he just transformed, so can he do that with anyones body or maybe just people who died on the island?? Lastly, What happened to Jacks dads Coffin????
Edit-I just remembered locke didnt die on the island so i have no idea how that whole thing happened.

The chains comment could mean several things. One theory is that he was a slave on the black rock slaving ship that came to the island. Another one is more metaphorical. What if Richard was almost "bound" to Jacob as a servant, as a repayment for the gift of eternal life? The comment would mean that it is nice seeing him out of his "chains" tying him to Jacob.
